Song Review:: GPP: Bring it Back {Debut} {Japanese}

  • Release date: 2025 December 16

  • Album tracklist: Bring it Back

  • Album runtime: 4 minutes

 I know what you're thinking. "Why is she suddenly doing a J-Pop debut?" And, that's a fair reaction, but they are under SM (albeit SM Japan), and there are enough K-Pop listeners who also listen to J-Pop that y'all might be interested to know about them. Plus, they're all in their twenties at least, at debut, and coming from SM that's a bit of an achievement, so I want to celebrate that. Also, apparently one of them has been studying ballet since she was four. I may not do any more of their songs; it depends on if I like this one how much I'm going to be paying attention to them, but at least this way, someone else who may not have known they existed until much later could find them and love them from the start. And this is over four minutes long so, again, on principle, I want to support this.

Honestly, I'm just really down for this song. We've got a melody buried in the very intense and kind of science-fiction grungy. It doesn't start off that way, instead it's softer and a bit synthy, but then the drums and the rest of the percussion kicks in to give it really driving punches. The sound strengthens again when it goes full cyberpunk, and that's pretty fantastic. The flow of this instrumental is stunning. And then, after all that intensity, the rug gets pulled out from under us and it softens in time for the intensity to ramp back up and we finish the song well. This is great. I may actually have to keep an eye on this group.

Tell me they don't sound kind of like BLACKPINK. It's a little weird hearing more of a YG sound come out of an SM group, but it's fine honestly. Also that first rapper? I don't know who she is but, wow she sounds incredible. And we get a little bit of metal vocals going on, which delights me. Even when they soften, there's a core of support and stability to their voices allowing them to sound so good. Oh, this one's good.

Some of you may get motion sick for this music video. Apparently that's a thing, but I'm just going to give you a gentle warning for it. I find it a little funny that this music video is more of a performance video, and they also have a performance video version. I will say that the choreography is incredible, and I'm a little bit in love. And I really liked the play between the two different costumes and the flipping back and forth. But, yeah, essentially, I'm going to be paying attention to them, so expect to see them show up here a lot as they have more releases.
