I raised my eyebrows a little bit at the track list until I realized that this was a Best of album (I did not in fact look at the title of the album in its entirety when I searched for it). One of those songs on there, I did a Greatest Hits post for it, which is delightful. (If there are any of her other songs, either in this album or not included, feel free to drop a comment here or drop a submission in The Form.) And you want to know the best part? The average runtime on these songs is almost four minutes long. Thank you, queen.
Ooh, this is really pretty. It does shift into something a little louder deeper into the song, but there's still something just very pretty about the song. This is what we call something solid and beautiful. This is a gorgeous song. It really is. And something about this song is shutting off my brain, which is a good thing because it's not in a "I'm so bored I'm disassociating" way. It's quieting it. This doesn't happen as often as I'd like it to, but when it does, it definitely makes writing these harder. In a good way, of course.
If I could wrap myself up in her voice like a chile verde smothered burrito, I'd be so happy. Her control over dynamics, pitch, and tone is insane. Being able to go through the soft breathy falsetto to something more akin to a belt in the same song while making it sound completely cohesive is a gift and a strongly trained skill that just makes her all the more impressive.
I get chills from this music video. That's it. That's literally all I have to say about it. It does make me want to give her a hug though because this kind of feels like she's giving warmth she didn't get to someone who needs it, but that's simply my interpretation of it.
