Song Review:: dodree: Just Like a Dream- Just Like a Dream {Debut}

 So, this is a duo technically under JYPE and I've heard some very interesting things about their debut song, although nothing that I specifically remember. I try not to focus on spoilers before I've heard a song so that I can do the review without too much. Someone did say that one majored in Korean music and the other in Korean dance, though, so my interest is piqued. I'm a little bit disappointed by the song lengths, but at the same time, I am unfamiliar enough with what I think the genre is that the disappointment is more of a leftover, because I don't know if this runtime is typical or atypical in this case.

This taps into my love of American country music and Irish music in the best way, though one more than the other at different parts of the song. Instrumentally, that guitar at the beginning is a very strong choice and catapults me back to my youth, which is absolutely fascinating. It's also a bold choice given the complicated history that the guitar has had in Korean music. It doesn't stay as prominent through the song as other genres would have kept it, but just how strong that opening is is a statement piece. I also love the near a cappella section, which adds a different texture to the song and prevents the whole thing from being a single flavor note. Even though I love it, I'm still very glad for that disruption.

Vocally, though, is where I'm most reminded of Irish music. It's in the vibrato style and trills and runs towards the end of the song. If the instrumental were less upbeat and it was in a minor key, this song would be so haunting and I would be screaming from the rooftops about it until I lost my voice. As it is, it's still going in my top songs of 2026 playlist I've got going. I'm very curious about other more traditional songs and I do need to get more into that.

I am completely head over heels in love with this music video. You know what this song has? The sword dancing. I have no idea what it's actually called, but it's legit the coolest thing.

2025 Music Show Recap

 And that's it, folks! That's a full year of the music show wins! Which means it's now time for the recap and data analysis! Delicious, delicious data. Now this is on the assumption that I counted correctly. I did double check my numbers to make sure, but I could have had a mental blip somewhere at the exact same time or skipped something twice. It's possible. I am however about 97.35% positive that I have correct numbers in the raw data and that I did the math correctly before dumping it into the spreadsheet for chart creation. Because I like charts and numbers. Not enough to take any math classes in college, but enough that I've always done well in and enjoyed math. First of all, the title track? I think that's actually a password, and I love that. I also am wholly in love with the song title "Delulu Solulu".  Whichever LOVE sent this in and specifically requested I time this release to come out when Minhyun gets out, I love you. GUESS WHAT EVERYONE! MINHYUN HAS BEEN DISCHARGED. I try to avoid the caps lock, but I'm honestly so happy I could cry.  Thank You (Evening by Evening) is the fourth track from their fifth mini album, Canvas, which sold a grand total of 10 first day units and was released in 2016. I'll let that sink in for a second. The things you learn, and honestly, I couldn't be prouder of their survival with that little factoid.  I wanted my last "normal" (ish) post of the year to be a Battle of the B-Sides, before I start hitting the December wrap-up and the year recap hard, to be appropriate for going into the new year. There were a couple of things I was thinking about for it. For my last Greatest Hits of 2025, I did a big hitter in the form of IVE from The Form and that had me thinking about this last post.  I was so busy this month. Y'all. I didn't do a ton of the reviews, which is coming back to bite me in the butt now that I'm trying to get my year end post worked on. It's fine. Past Fangirl hates Future Fangirl, and it's completely fine.  July debuts! I only did a single review for a debut group this month, and it was for AHOF , who has been doing quite well for a rookie group. I may get 1verse reviewed because I still feel guilty about not reviewing them.  I decided to have my first one of these for 2026 be something upbeat.  Plus, considering they had their tenth anniversary last year and I didn’t do anything for them then (because that was during my lean months), I figure that this would be a good one to go with now. I’m pretty sure that this isn’t one of their softer songs, but I like the idea of starting off the year with a song called “Beautiful” anyway because it taps into the romantic and sentimental bit of my soul that attaches like a barnacle to some of these groups.  I got this a bit ago as a suggestion, but I just kept putting it on hold. However, considering Taeyong is now discharged (and I get to pull his photocard off my Enlistment Wall now yay ), I'm going to dust this one off and do it. I would have had this out for his discharge but I lost track of when he was getting discharged. Sorry. I am also slightly afraid of this song because I haven't heard it and whoever submitted it wrote "enjoy the lyrics ;)" and I can't decide which is likelier: if this is going to have lyrics like Smoothie or if it has lyrics that I am definitely going to mishear and make them worse than they are, because a comment like that could go either way.
