I was very happy to be able to pull Dawon's photocard off my Enlistment Wall a couple of months ago, so I'm hoping that he was involved in this comeback. There are a couple of track names on this album that I'm definitely interested in, and so I'll be listening to the whole thing after I'm done with this. "So" is apparently my word for today.
This song would be very easy to turn into an acoustic version. I mean, we are talking laughably easy. I haven't heard a song where I could hear the non-existent acoustic version this strongly. Anyway, there's actually a pretty big chunk of this song that has effects to make it sound like it's a 40s lacquer disc, particularly with the piano. I'm in love with the sound of this instrumental, by the way. It's wonderfully mellow and chill, even when we get more instruments added to increase the complexity and sound.
Apparently the rappers are in the military, or they've been recruited for vocalist duty, because they are showing off their vocals in an insane way. We've got literally everything I want vocally in this song. Harmonizations and layering? Absolutely. Their voices are stacked, and sometimes stacked asymmetrically. Vibrato? You hear some early on. Belts or runs? We get a run in falsetto late in the song that I'm pretty sure is part of the ad-libs but I am not going to quibble too much about this. Wow. Well done, SF9. I'm even more excited about the rest of the album.
They did in fact go a little bit vintage with this. It's only a live clip, but here's also the where I would swear because of how good they sound. I won't, because that's unprofessional, but know that it's part of my reaction here. Would have been better if they'd used the old school mics, but modern technology does make the sound higher quality. Hold up, was this for their tenth anniversary? Not yet. But they do turn ten this year, so that's a huge congrats!
