Song Review:: Somin (APRIL/KARD): UNVEIL- Backseat {Debut}

 While looking her up a little, I found out that she used to be the leader of APRIL, which is interesting. I also found out that she debuted before that in a girl group that lasted for two years, which makes her sunbae to all the 2013 debuts, plus some of the 2012 debuts. That's interesting to me. I don't know if it's interesting to anyone else, but it's interesting to me at least. Happy debut! It's been a long time coming! I'm not super happy about the runtime on her debut song, but it could be worse.

Starting off with an alarm clock is a bold way to start off your debut song, and honestly, that makes it a great song to use as your alarm. I jump every time the song restarts. But that does give it a built-in functionality, which is something that I respect. The instrumental as a whole is otherwise repetitious enough because of a prominent and fairly unchanging beat that I find myself mentally wandering a little bit when I try to listen to it as the instrumental track, but the little trills that we get snap me back every time. It's a very solid base, so I'm curious about what the vocals are going to sound like.

The balance on this song is odd. That beat almost overwhelms her vocals, and as it is, they're competing for attention. That's a shame because wow, this is kind of a sassy song and she's got a great textural range that she's showing off, as expected of an idol in her fourteenth year. I'm really enjoying what she's showing off though. This is solid debut work. I'm pleased. 

I know what the other definition of this word is, but I need you all to know how unbelievably delighted that the car is covered in pink shag. This is more of a performance video, and she's got a few costume changes. But the highlight of the music video is when she's dancing in the rain. It's stunning.

 So I realized while I was writing the previous post (link down at the bottom) that their anniversary was actually on a Wednesday, which is one of the two days that I try to post on. But I had a plan and I wanted to follow the plan, and while I was making said plan, I temporarily forgot what day they debuted, which is silly because it's ten days after NU'EST. Also, this was a request from my Stay friend...quite a bit ago, but because of MEGAVERSE , I wanted to spread out the Stray Kids posts a bit, which is why this has taken me so long (I apologized when we went to Hannah's concert together).  This comes from my submission form, and it's the first one I'm doing from there! Whoo! I was going to put this off a little because I just did a 2012 debut for a Battle of the B-Sides post, but oh, well! I have a feeling that this one isn't like that song either, so I'm less worried about doing too much of the same. Variety, yes, but I can do what I want and the few songs I've already heard of theirs ( Chained Up is in many of my playlists) I've liked already. How much of that is because I know they're in the 2012 debut club, which automatically enters them into my category of groups I look upon favorably, I don't know.  I was honestly wondering when I was going to get a submission for a group that has been getting awards specifically because they've been getting awards. Well, that has finally happened. I'm assuming it was a DIVE that dropped this submission for me, although I've also never had a submission specifically asking me for other kpop groups covering the song in question. So this one took a little bit more time in that I had to hunt down some covers. It was an intriguing request. I appreciate it. I'm also combining it with an earlier submission that I got for this song, but hadn't gotten around to doing yet. Song Review:: BTS: ARIRANG- SWIM

Release date: 2026 March 20 Album tracklist: Body to Body, Hooligan, Aliens, FYA, 2.0, No. 29, SWIM , Merry Go Round, NORMAL, Like Animals, they don't know 'bout us, One More Night, Please, Into the Sun Album runtime: 41 minutes  Well, here we are, folks. A much awaited comeback. Let's just get to it. I did take note of the runtime and we're just shy of a three minute runtime average for the album, and the title track is less than three, which I'm not as pleased about, but that's par for the course with HYBE title tracks lately. At least it's over two-and-a-half minutes, so I'm not going to whine too much. Also, I took off the NU'EST nail polish of two of my nails and painted one of them purple in honor of this comeback. I'm very curious to see what they've got for us and I'll be taking a listen to the whole album to find the song I like best, which is likely to be a b-side given my track record.  I hunted through his discography for a song that would match what I wanted this post to do. For a number of reasons I'll get into in the next post, even though this will be posted on NU'EST's anniversary, I'm not doing one of theirs then. Instead, I wanted to do an RM song because BTS has an album coming out in the next week and I wanted to honor the friendship between the two groups, and because I finally get to pull JR's photocard off my enlistment wall next week as well, I wanted to do RM specifically. Both of them are rapper leaders, neither of them is the eldest member of their group. They debuted around the same time, they're both Kims, they're less than a year apart in age, and because their groups had near-disbandment-causing struggles early in their careers, they have that connection as well. Song Review:: V01D: 01- Tug of War {Debut}

Also, we got some updated birth years, at least, from the ones missing, and I'm pleased to confirm that they're not  on Underage Protocol as hoped, which means that if I like them, and I probably will, that I can happily listen to them to my little heart's content. March 2026 Wrap-Up: Time is a Soup

 So I'm awake at 1 am for literally zero reason. And while I could continue to write the reviews to be posted tomorrow, instead I'm going to get this started because as we know, these can take a minute. You know? You know. I'm going to add some plant pictures at the bottom after the section where I talk about what I was listening to. I covered three group debuts this month: TUNEXX , SUCTION , V01D ! I also covered two solo debuts: Yuna from ITZY and Kangmin from Verivery. Those links all go to my reviews. There were two virtual idol groups that debuted that I did not cover: Skinz and Owis .  I waffled back an forth on what song I wanted to do here a lot. I thought I'd made a decision, and then I decided against it. Then I'd made another decision, and decided against it. Then, I went back to my original thought, and here we are. I have, like, three songs that I keep circling that I want to talk about, but that also means putting them in a spot where they support the songs to either side (in this case BTOB and Stray Kids) and also stand out well on their own. I feel for the people who decide the order to put songs in an album or for a setlist. It's not easy.  I wanted my last "normal" (ish) post of the year to be a Battle of the B-Sides, before I start hitting the December wrap-up and the year recap hard, to be appropriate for going into the new year. There were a couple of things I was thinking about for it. For my last Greatest Hits of 2025, I did a big hitter in the form of IVE from The Form and that had me thinking about this last post. Do I do one of my top three groups? Do I do an old group? Do I match it in energy? Do I soften it a bit? Higher energy? Do I do a more obscure group or do I do one of the big hitters?
