Song Review:: PRIMROSE: Cosmic- Cosmic

  • Release date: 2026 June 24

  • Album tracklist: Cosmic, Ring

  • Album runtime: 6 minutes

 This is their first release for the year, and ideally (because I know that this is a smaller group, which stresses me out on principle), I'd like to see at least a mini album from them by the end of the year. Preferably a full album, but that's less likely to happen, so I'd be content to have a mini album from them.

If this doesn't have some solid choreography, this instrumental is wasted on the song. We've got some sleek R&B music here with a strong beat that's quite repetitious, which I'm not overly a fan of to begin with as we know, and there is a tiny bit of a melody working its way through the song that we can hear, although it's not strong enough for my taste. Still, this is a very strong beat that doesn't send my nervous system into a complete tizzy, because it's not a set of multiple aggressive beats stacked and layered over each other to produce the illusion of fullness but is actually a very flat instrumental. This isn't doing that. But I'm still going to be upset if we don't get strong choreography because this is not fluffy choreography music. I'd expect smooth movements and sharp angles from a boy group with this sound, so I expect the same from a girl group.

The vocals are reminding me of another song, but I'm currently a seething little bubble of anger right now, unrelated to this song, so I'm unlikely to remember what song it is that this reminds me of. We've got  little bit of a vibrato going on here, which is good. I like that. We've also got some very pretty runs and a couple of bent notes, which I was not expecting since you rarely get them in K-Pop. We don't get a lot of variation to the vocals which is disappointing, but not unexpected given the genre. It's not a song that makes me want to chew out the songwriters, for the record, which I believe is a good indication that if I were in a clearer headspace, I'd probably be enjoying the song a lot more.

Good news, this music video is not washed out. The contrasts are striking and there is a bit of vibrancy, even if it's largely cool-toned. I'm still reminded heavily of another song, but I have no idea which one it is.
