Song Review:: Queenz Eye: PRISM EP.02- Y2K

 How late am I? Almost two months late with this, actually. But, this was sitting waiting to be done in my notebook I've designated for writing my reviews because I just really enjoy writing by hand, a lot more than typing.

This song is making my joints ache in a very specific birth-year-starts-with-a-one sort of way. The sound of the phone dialing at the beginning is bringing back some memories I was not expecting to have such visceral flashback to. You never hear that sound anymore. And the sound of the dial-up modem? Even more stress. Interestingly, the instrumental itself doesn't really sound like an instrumental from around 2000. This isn't loud enough.

The chanting right before the dial up modem sound does in fact sound very 90s however. I just realized that I never double checked ages, and I should have because this got a lot more streams than it should have. Ah, well. I can listen to this next September after the manager turns eighteen. Anyway, the vocals rea actually pretty strong here and now I've completely forgotten what this song sounds like. I like it though. I really like this song. It's been added to the playlist for the songs released this year that I really liked. I'm not so fond with it only being two-and-a-half minutes though. I am not about that.

...If the future is calling, and the future is Y2K...When is this supposed to be set? Sorry. Ignore me. Mostly. Just confused. I do deeply appreciate the amount of color that's in the costuming and the cut of the clothing. And as I understand it, low cut jeans are coming back, not as low cut as we had them, but a lot of the fashion is coming back again. I wish the storyline was stronger, because there actually was potential for a time travelling storyline to match with the lyrics.

 I decided to spend some time this month on artists I haven't covered yet, which includes some younger and some older artists, and also on b-sides, because I've given a lot of attention to the title tracks the last couple of months and realistically, there are a lot more b-sides than there are title tracks floating out in the big wide world of music. People pay more attention to the title tracks for understandable reasons, but I really like the b-sides and they're a different side of groups than you get from the title tracks, you know? So, Candy Shop is a five-member girl group that debuted in 2024 under Brave Entertainment. One of the members is currently on hiatus, and I did review the last song they released, which was March of 2025, right after the maknae turned seventeen. Greatest Hits:: Seventeen: Not Alone {Japanese}

 I have changed which song I want to do for Jeonghan's discharge song three times now. I considered Pretty U, because I love the bit of the choreography where he does the cheek tapping move. And I would consider it for Joshua because of his iconic mistake, but since he's an LA native born and raised, he won't be getting discharged. And I have the cheek tapping move attached to Jeonghan. It's very cute. Then I thought about doing one of the Japanese releases because he learned Japanese to talk to the Japanese Carats because English and Chinese were already covered. My second favorite Seventeen song is a Japanese release, but I also feel like I want to hold onto Ima for a different occasion.  So when I was trying to decide how I was going to honor my boys getting discharged, I decided to give each one of them a song to represent another aspect about them other than just as idols. For Minhyun back in December, it was a NU'EST song he was a lyricist for (thank you Submitter, for tossing that into my lap and helping me decide how I was going to do this). For JR back in March, it was a song for which he learned to play the bass guitar that was in a drama he acted in. For Baekho, I'm going to do a song he has writing credits for (y'all are going to be surprised by what song I pick, but you've got about a year before you get to find out which one it is). Song Review:: IU: A flower bookmark, Pt. 3- Never Ending Story

Song Review:: Taemin (SHINee): Eternal- Sexy in the Air

Hello, and welcome!      As his first album under the new company, I'm sure most fans approached it with mild or moderate hesitation.       Luckily, I don't necessarily think we need have worried too much.       The song opens with some grindy electric guitar, an element I have to admit I'm a fan of in general. So while I'm very, very excited for this particular song because I love BSS and their particular brand of cheerful chaos, that awareness sits on my shoulder and glares at me. The Hoshi x Woozi subunit coming up shortly may be a different story, but that's a problem for Future Fangirl to worry about.  Whichever LOVE sent this in and specifically requested I time this release to come out when Minhyun gets out, I love you. GUESS WHAT EVERYONE! MINHYUN HAS BEEN DISCHARGED. I try to avoid the caps lock, but I'm honestly so happy I could cry.  Thank You (Evening by Evening) is the fourth track from their fifth mini album, Canvas, which sold a grand total of 10 first day units and was released in 2016. I'll let that sink in for a second. The things you learn, and honestly, I couldn't be prouder of their survival with that little factoid. Writing credits include Bumzu, who recently won Legendary Producer at the 2025 AAAs and is most well-known for being Seventeen's producer alongside Woozi but also has done songs for Jin (BTS), Block B, TWS, 2PM, fromis_9, NCT Dream, Pristin, EXO, and Rain among others. This is their third company, and that can't be easy on the members or the fandom. Still! With new environments come new opportunities! And while I did have to round up, title track and half the songs are over three minutes, so I'm cool with this. Only took two listens for me to add it to my fave releases of 2025 playlist. Good news for the song, it's got lots of delicious and enthusiastic texture. It's also rock, which I'm naturally inclined to love.  Continuing with my July theme of "B-Sides From Artists I Haven't Covered Yet", I've only actually decided on the first three songs. I've got a doc that has a list of songs I kind of want to cover but am horribly indecisive about because I've switched July's setlist about four times now before I gave up. The doc is going to be a roulette wheel when it's time. So, if you've got a song for me, I've got a lot of room in the back two-thirds of the month for it and am happy to slot it right in there. The other solidified song is from an artist who is actually a pretty controversial figure, but also undeniably impactful on K-Pop as a whole.  Pentagon debuted in 2016 under Cube Entertainment as a ten-member boy group.
