I've got a soft spot the size of Kentucky for Samuel, which doesn't compare to Seventeen's soft spot for him, which is the size of Alaska.
I hit play on this song and immediately twitched because that first note startled me. Big power right from the start. I'm not even going to call this Latin-esque, because it's just straight Latin music. The beat has a very specific timing to it that uses rests and eighth notes to give the beat a distinct rhythm, and there are two separate rhythms taking up the majority of the instrumental from two different percussion instruments, or maybe one of those is a synthesizer. I'm not sure. It doesn't really matter to me one way or the other. One complaint I have about the song, is that there isn't really a good and clear indication when the song starts and when it ends if you've got it on repeat, as I do when I write these.
It's good to see him leaning into that half of his heritage, and this song has more Spanish than it does Korean, which is a little amusing to me for a K-Pop song. This song is also very much on the seduction side, although we'll see how much the music video and the choreography turn him into a male bird. We don't have any big bursts of vocals here, fitting the style of the song even though I know he can handle big vocals, so I'm a little bit disappointed on that end, but we've got a decently wide range in textures and notes, so I'm less disappointed than I would be otherwise. I'm not as enthused about the chorus as a lot of other people are probably going to be because of the amount of repetition, but the sung line helps to break that up.
So it's more of a performance video than it is a music video, which is fine. He is in fact a male bird with this choreography, and we love that for him. But can we just acknowledge how hard that choreography is? And also, I love that the flared pants are coming back into style.
