When this subunit was first announced, I posted on Threads about how I needed them to call their subunit "V8" because of how funny it was. And then we got the subunit name. And I felt so pleased with myself. I still feel pleased with myself. Very validated. And I know I said I was going to focus on the July releases, which I've done a terrible job of so far, but they got a win, so I need to get this post done. It's not that I was neglecting them on purpose, I promise.
This is 8-bit video game in the best way possible. Like, I've had this on repeat for, I think, an hour at this point while I read a Wiki on Five Nights at Freddy's and I've just been vibing to it. It's very electronic, and that isn't one of my reliable yes types, though I do like some aspects of it fairly reliably. However, because of the aesthetic of the games, I think I warmed to how 8-bit it is faster.
I'm not even paying attention to what language I think this is in. The vibes are just immaculate. I'm honestly a bit surprised because I don't traditionally like this amount of autotune on the vocals. However, the combination of The8's higher, clearer voice and Vernon's lower, rougher voice is such a good combination to provide a good range in tone, even if the autotune washes out the individual textures a bit more than I'd like.
This music video reminds me of The Fifth Element mixed with Mad Max for some reason. But generally, this is exactly the blend of chill and wildly skilled that I'd expect from these two. It's nice. I'll make sure my teacher friends show it to their students.
