Song Review:: WHIB: CHERRY PIE- CHERRY PIE

 This is one of the reviews that I do because I'm including a stage of this song for the music show wins post as one of the extra songs. Still, this is a smaller group that needs the attention, so I'm still fine with this, even though I already know I'm behind. It's fine.

Oh, this is very pretty. This is a very pretty introduction with the whistling. I'm not going to lie that the instrumental reminds me of something a girl group would do (which isn't an issue, but it's just something interesting that I'm noting), but specifically a warm, summery sort of song from a girl group. It's a little late in the season for something this summery, but there's always next year to listen to it in the summer playlists. The whistling also reminds me of another song and I'm not sure which one it is, but I have a positive association with whatever song that is, so it's fine. The variation is good between sections. The flow of energy is good. This is very pleasant, if not particularly exciting, which is fine because as much as I like the higher energy and more dramatic songs, something this sweet is a good change of pace.

There are a couple of spots where I hope the post-production editing just stripped the vibrato with the auto-tune because there should be some there. If that's the case, I hope we get to hear it in live performances. We get the faintest hint of one at the very end and at the very beginning, but it's not prominent enough. But it's sweet and catchy and just summery. Is this or is this not an encore song? They also now have a perfect festival song. We've got a range of tones going on and the ad-libs sound so good for the harmony there. 

This is such a cute, wholesome music video. The members are flipping adorable, the costuming is great, and it's so on theme that it's just satisfying.

Song Review:: ALL(H)OURS: SMOKE POINT- Graffiti {Pre-Release}

I know they're a fairly recent boy group, but have no idea their company, the number of members, or debut year, and I do have two of their songs in one of my playlists, but they're my Junk Drawer playlist and haven't gotten to them yet. Ah! Seven member group under Eden Entertainment (which is now sort of a subsidiary of JYPE, I think?) that just had their one year anniversary.  It's the most wonderful time of the year!  I'm back with a new selection of Halloween themed or generally spooky songs for you all! Have I spent the year looking for new songs for my playlist? Yes. The timing is also hilarious for me given that I just covered both a VIXX song as well as a remake of one of Ken's songs. The alignment of the stars brings me a little bit of joy, and I'm glad for it to have happened. It's cute. Greatest Hits:: Hyo (Girls' Generation): Sober

 The final song of my little triptych of Sober songs to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of BIGBANG's debut, and I went with a contemporary soloist. Girls' Generation is only a year younger than BIGBANG and occupies much the same role as BIGBANG does in the canon, just on the girl group side. So it really worked out that there is a soloist from Girls' Generation that has a song with the same name as Sober because that also gives us a different texture to look at. Plus, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that the impact Girls' Generation and its members have had on the industry cannot be hyped enough, especially when their activity has slowed down a little and I've seen younger or newer fans mistakenly dismiss them just because they're not pulling the streaming or release numbers like the streaming farms for some of the other groups. Song Review:: Kiss of Life: SWEAT- SWEAT

Album runtime: 5 minutes  I haven't seen any more issues from them, so I'm going to probationarily pull them off Underage Protocol for this song. Also, congrats on the win!  This song is delightfully on the dramatic side of things, but it's not fully theatre kid dramatic, if that makes any sense. It's cool kid drama, which isn't as fun but no less engaging. I'm almost positive the song is an afrobeats song (maybe tropical house? I'm still not positive on some genres), which I am squinting over a little bit because of their previous situation, but it's not something that would immediately qualify them for being put back, especially since none of the members had a hand in the composition. I'll also say that the decrescendo immediately made it qualify for my favorite releases of the year, then when it goes back up to tempo, it feels so much faster. Song Review:: ILLIT: I'LL LIKE YOU- Cherish (My Love)

The fact that they're not allowed to stay for the end of year award shows seems to be pretty good evidence that they really shouldn't be working in groups like this anyway; at least, not yet. But until enough people can say "stop exploiting the children," nothing is going to change. In the case of ILLIT, yes, their maknae turned sixteen this year, much like Dino of Seventeen when they debuted. But, also like Seventeen, the group as a whole gets to squeak by in my books on a technicality: she didn't turn sixteen after they debuted (which means she turns seventeen in their first year, which is tolerable though not ideal), and at least half of the group was already fully eighteen or older at debut. I'm not super familiar with most of their discography and even though Sangyeon was on my enlistment wall (I've got a softness for him because his birthday is near mine), I wasn't initially planning on doing a discharge post for him. Then, to my surprise, I got this request in The Form from someone who just found my little blog from a post I shared on Tumblr, asking if I'd do this song for Sangyeon's discharge. Naturally!
