September 2025 Wrap-Up: School's Back From Summer

 Hello, everyone! At some point, I'm going to feel confident enough in my Korean skills to have part of this in Korean, but today and this month is not that point. 

So the fabulous, amazing debuts for the month. The ones I covered were AxMxP and IDID for the groups, CxM for the Seventeen subunit, and soloists Haechan of NCT, Jinny of Secret Number, Junhee of A.C.E, and Nana of After School. The only group I didn't cover was DNA, which is a co-ed group.

Songs I was looking forward to:

  • CxM- You mean my Seventeen bias is debuting in an official subunit? You're expecting me not to be excited about this?
  • Junhee- I've been looking forward to his solo debut since he dropped the Your Idol cover. 
  • Woodz- First release post-military service I've covered because I was very lazy over the summer? Yes, please.
  • izna- These are my girls, y'all. Strong rappers. Vocals that are consistently supported. Exactly what I'm always looking for.
  • Catch the Young- Y'all, I just really recommend this band. They're really quite good.
  • PRIMROSE- The only reason I know about the group at all is because of this blog. And I love them. 
  • The KingDom- Every time they have a comeback, I'm relieved. I worry about them a little and I love their traditional concept.
  • KickFlip- They have had absolutely garbage luck with their debut and first comeback timing and starting with that first comeback, I've been seriously rooting for them
  • Cortis- I like their older brothers at the company, so I've got my eye on the new rookies with curiosity

Still not a lot of girl groups on there, although this month was definitely boy group heavy in terms of releases anyway.

There were a few first time wins this month, which is always delightful and always makes my day when I find out.

Just as a cute little fun fact, the BBS page has gotten more hits than the GH page. Which I think is amusing. 

I got through one Greatest Hits post, found below.

EXID's "Hot Pink": This song is like...the definition of gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss covered in pink and heels. I think even the pink-hating younger version of myself would have absolutely adored this music video even though it would have infuriated her at first. The song needs to go viral with a dance challenge. Someone. Please.

And there was one of my Battle of the B-Sides posts.

Stray Kids's "MEGAVERSE": "Welcome to the Stray Kids hot megaverse." (bowdadadowdow) The number of times that phrase goes through my brain on at least a weekly basis, if not a daily basis, since that album has come out is a little bit ridiculous, so this was a great recommendation to have. The intro? Amazing. The choreography? So sharp. Stray Kids hoo!

Honorable Mentions:

  • BTS "BTS Cypher Pt.2: Triptych": This is going to be one of several BTS songs that are going to be on here this month. Each time I have an enlistment, I use another group to not deal with it. For Hoshi and Woozi, it was BTS. I don't even like rap normally. But this one just hit the spot, I guess. Savage.

  • BTS "Coffee": My favorite BTS song. It's so comforting, ironically because I also don't like coffee. The rhythm is smooth. The melody is so pretty. I also have no idea what the lyrics say because I've never actually looked them up. But it's a gorgeous song. (It's also over four minutes long, and I'm sure that had no affect on my love for this song)

  • Seventeen "Habit": One thing you can always rely on Seventeen's vocal unit for is that their ballads are some of the prettiest things in music, and often are just great big hugs. This one isn't as much of a hug because it's actually quite a sad song, but it's just gorgeous. And those harmonies? Swoon. Also. I miss Woozi.
  • Beast "Fiction (Orchestra Version)": The original is gorgeous with a fabulous music video. But with the stringed instruments? Just about anything I could want in a song. I wish I could hear this live. I might cry. Not even kidding.
  • Hwasa (MAMAMOO) "I Love My Body": This song is so unbelievably iconic. I've seen it performed live. I fell in love. She's beyond incredible. (Also there is a Music Bank stage where she's wrinkling her nose adorably in the thumbnail and she's just so pretty.)
  • BTS "2,3!": So funny story about this one. Other than my newfound discovery of this song, I was watching one of those "Name a kpop song from this category" videos on YouTube (I like to do those on occasion just to see where I'm lacking) and one of them was "name a song with a number in the title". And I was so excited because I had just found this song like the day before. Made that one easy. But, yeah. Anyway. It's a great song. Love this.
  • Seulgi (Red Velvet) "Dead Man Runnin'": Yeah, I was gearing up for Halloween early. Her voice is stunning and the song is amazing.

 Unless I do The Roulette Wheel, I obviously can pick which of the suggestions I've gotten that I'll write posts for. I also have a spreadsheet where I have my posts organized by generation and boy group, girl group, and co-ed. Halloween Spookening: 2025 Edition

 It's the most wonderful time of the year!  I'm back with a new selection of Halloween themed or generally spooky songs for you all! Have I spent the year looking for new songs for my playlist? Yes. Yes, yes I have, so if you have anymore suggestions for me, give me the creepy doll songs, the predatory wolfy songs, the haunting and the eerie. I love my Halloween playlist and I listen to it all year long, but October is the official start of when I don't get weird looks from people for listening to it. I am so excited. As I can't tell that there's a discernable actual title track from this album beyond what I've already covered, I'm just going to pick my favorite track of the bunch to review. It's been bothering me that I haven't done one when I was so diligent with the tracks with the music videos. This album is a massive undertaking, and I genuinely don't know which ones are new songs and which are old. But I know at least this one is a b-side because there is absolutely no corresponding music video. Also, what a flex. Twentieth Japanese anniversary. King of Kings, indeed. Now, normally this would be the part where I go sniffing for them performing it, but it's literally such a new song, and I don't think they've had the opportunity to perform it.  This group has a grand total of 2500 listeners a month on Spotify, so I'm super happy that the submitter decided to give this song to me. Let's see if we can introduce more people to them. I've also never actually heard of this group before so chances are, you and I are both going to be going on this venture into this b-side and group together for the first time. If you've already heard of them or listen to them, and there was something I didn't highlight about this song that you'd like to, go ahead and hop on over to the submission link, and I will make an addition with my focus on the thing you really enjoy about it. Song Review:: XODIAC: GLOWY DAY- TIME 2 SHINE

Release date: 2025 February 18 Album tracklist: TIME 2 SHINE , MY LOVE , LOVERS OR JUST FRIENDS Album runtime: 9 minutes  Yes, I remember this group. This is the group I thought would be more like xikers than TWS, and I was very wrong about that. Or at least I was with the last song they released that I covered. I don't know how indicative of their general sound OUR DAYS  was, but I liked that one. So here we are supporting the adults at debut once more. Also, this is for the title track. I now also understand why I had two XODIAC drafts sitting there. So the pre-release has been re-added to the draft list. Song Review:: FIFTY FIFTY: Day & Night- Perfect Crime {Pre-Release}

Release date: 2025 April 29 Album tracklist: Pookie, ADONIS, Work of Art, Perfect Crime, Heartbreak, Midnight Special Album runtime:  minutes  I believe that this is a pre-release for the group because Spotify gave me a notification that the countdown for the album had begun. Which was amusing, but I've also got a suspicion that this one might get a win on a music show. Haven't heard it yet. But I've got a feeling that the possibility is there. If I'm right, I'm going to be rather excited for the group which is the Ship of Theseus. If I'm wrong, well, they have a title track coming out as well soon, so that can be another attempt by the fans. I understand things might be a little shaky, but I hope the seas continue to soothe as equilibrium is achieved once again. Music Show Wins:: Week of 10/01 - 10/07

 We're already in October. Goodness. You know, it might be interesting for me to go through and tally how many groups got how many wins this year, and how many times each music show had a winner for an end of year music show summary post. I don't know. I'll have to think about it. That might be fun though. Y'all have all the raw data already and I could make pie charts and bar charts and... Sorry, I'm math nerd-ing again.  Two exciting things happened this week! First, we got two triple crowns this week! The only way I would be happier is if it was for a song that I could have given you more stage performances for, but that is super exciting! Congrats to the group! And, something that I have been rooting for since they debuted in January because they have had the absolute worst luck with timing, KickFlip got their first win! I couldn't be happier! Music Show Wins:: Week of 2025 01/01 - 01/07

  We didn't get any of the music shows for the first part of the week because of the mourning period. Starting with Music Bank , we got a return to a song that had a couple of weeks without a win, and as soon as I saw the name, I started laughing. And then for Inkigayo , we got another older song. YG supremacy. For After School Club (ASC), the hip-hop girl group YOUNG POSSE were the guests. I found them to be delightfully adorable. There wasn't an MC challenge, which made me a little sad because that's my favorite segment, but I was very entertained by the members regardless. The link for the episode is included as always. Greatest Hits:: MBLAQ: Stay

 Summoned for you directly from The Form, it's ironically a song from the same album that I've already done a BBS post from. I chose to do Darling  because of the roulette wheel and shuffle, so that one's on me. But apparently someone out there in the world really likes this album to slide the title track my way as well.  So, I was technically focusing on the repackage album of this for Darling , so you get sort of new information. Released in 2011, this was their first full album. Containing a grand total of thirteen tracks and a runtime of 43 minutes, which averages out to a little more than three minutes a song, it's at a good length, even with the first track dropping the average. It did pretty well on the charts, peaking at second on the Gaon weekly chart and third on the Gaon monthly chart. No music show wins with it, but that doesn't matter because music show wins are not the final dictator of love for a song.  Flashing Lights warning for the music video. Gro...

Song Review:: POW: Wall Flowers

Release date: 2025 September 29 Album tracklist: Wall Flowers Album runtime: 3 minutes  Okay, we've got a nice single from this group I remember being one of the ones that I forget I like until I listen to them, and then I remember that I like them. Progress. And , even more excitingly, there's a dance practice to go along with it.  The instrumental is basically easy listening jazz. If this was just on its own, it would be calm, chill, snoozy time music. But it's not, and normally you'd expect smoother vocals, maybe some husky singing, but instead, we get quite the dichotomy. This is a Christmas instrumental you just casually put on in the background while you open presents. What we actually get from the members is about as far from Christmas instrumental as you could possibly get. The rapping is slow enough that you get tricked into thinking that this is going to be a chill song, but the shouting in the latter half to a quarter of the song immediately negates the chill...
