Song Review:: izna: SIGN

  • Release date: 2025 March 31
  • Album tracklist: SIGN
  • Album runtime: 3 minutes

 I'm coming up on the tail end of the March releases, thank goodness. I suspect that this is actually a pre-release single, but I'm not marking it as such until such a time as it's confirmed as this is being marketed as a digital single. I actually like izna. I think they're a solid group, and here is the review I did for their debut song. I'm just deeply annoyed by this run time, as you should expect from me.

There's a little bit of haunted doll aesthetic to the instrumentals that smooths back with the first pre-chorus to something with a stronger beat and a stronger stand. I'm getting some mid-80s feel from a couple of points in the song where the synth is particularly noticeable. But generally speaking, even when everything about the song softens, there's still plenty of texture and depth to dig your teeth into without immediately feeling the need to brush your teeth.

And speaking of not needing to brush your teeth, there are only one or two who have the softer, girlier sound as their default. The others are full bodied, allowing the song to shift through different textures as it moves like a river through different biomes on its journey to the sea. It's just unfortunately a short journey.

I feel like there definitely is a storyline, and I'll be able to pick it out better if I watch it a couple more times. There's something almost post apocalyptic happening, which is why I get that feeling. However, I really enjoy the blend of the bigger, more powerful dance moves with the softer, more precise ones that follow the respective sections. I'd love to see a girl group pulling out big choreo like Seventeen or Stray Kids or ATEEZ, (and if you know any that do, please, please, please toss them my way, I don't care how or what platform you use to get that group to my awareness), but in the meantime, I'll settle for choreography like this. Plus, the members are all stunningly gorgeous. They are visuals stacked on visuals and it's deeply impressive that they're this talented as well.
