Song Review:: Yugyeom (GOT7):: Interlunar- Interlunar

  • Release date: 2025 June 17

  • Album tracklist: It's Okay, Glue stick (Feat Hoody), Shall We Dance, You Call My Name, Scenario, Interlunar, Mine (Feat. Kirin), Set Me Free (Feat. Gaeko), Unconditional, Sweet Like - Interlunar Version

  • Album runtime: 29 minutes

A lot of the GOT7 members have been pretty active lately, which is absolutely delightful. They've released a group album and now they're back to solo until their next group release. I'm a bit disappointed by the runtime, but to be fair to it, most of them are three minutes or close, and there are only two songs that round to two minutes.

I was pretty sure that this was standard trap, but there was a delightful energy shift in the middle that caught my attention in a good way. Throbbing bass makes up the majority of hte song, but that section where we don't get it gives the song such a necessary texture. Without it, the song would be on the repetitive side of things, dully stimulating but somewhat monotonous. But it isn't. So I'm glad. The instrumental also gives the song a boost of much needed energy and drive, with an interesting instrument hidden within the track towards the end. I'm not entirely sure what it is, but is sounds somewhat like a rice filled maraca, or a beaded maraca. But, we only get it at basically the end of the song, which is a fascinating choice.

The majority of the song sits in a narrow band of notes vocally. There are some ad-libs however that give a useful added texture. I would really like to hear more chest voice from Yugyeom rather than the mixed voice we hear for all the song except for those ad-libs. I'm not overly fond of this as a title track just listenngn to it becaue it's not quite spacey enough to be strongly science fiction to match a title like "Interlunar", but I will admit that it also sounds like the kind of song that when I see it with the choreography, or with a story-rich music video, I'll appreciate it. It may not end up one of my favorite releases but I'll likely not skip it if it comes up, if one of those two conditions is met.

Slice of Life music video incoming! It's very cute and very chill. It's not giving me the warm fuzzies right now, but I also wouldn't count it out seeing it again in the future, you know? For me, it kind of feels like a waiting period music video. I'll probably really like it in the future, but as of right now, it's not quite doing it for me.
