Song Review:: KickFlip: My First Flip- My First Love Song

 The average of this album is quite low, which makes sense because of the songs, five of the seven are right around the two-and-a-half-minute mark. It's a big sigh from me, honestly. But, just as a reminder for those of you who care about such things, our illustrious maknae is eighteen, still in school but graduating next year (I think). I'm rooting for this group really hard. I want them to get a win. It's been terrible, terrible luck with every other release they've had, but this time they may have a decent shot at getting their first win.

The instrumental startled me at the very beginning. If I used emojis in this, this would be a good place to put the laughing with the sweat drop emoji. The cat (PJ) did come over and try to lay on my phone, so I assume that this one is PJ Approved, which is actually kind of surprising because normally he likes songs that are a lot harder with a lot more rap. By contrast, this one is a lot more rock. It's got moments where the song softens and takes a couple of steps back from the strong energy that most of the song has. I like this one. It's satisfying.

That is a very strong ending to the song. Great way to end it. The chanted "노래" is in a really good spot. I'm a big fan of the sound of rock bands vocally, and while I logically know that this is an idol group, not a band, they sound enough like a rock band that I have to actively remember that they aren't one. 

We got a slice of life music video with a storyline. Couldn't be happier. The members are adorable, the concept is so sweet, and I kind of want to gently squish them. Good luck, KickFlip! I hope you get your first win!

August 2025 Wrap-Up: The Witch is Back!

 Okay, everyone. Welcome back!!! It's been a hot minute since I've written one of these, but considering how many songs I didn't review over the course of the last three months, I didn't feel like I had enough done to warrant a wrap-up. Still, let's get to it! And yes, the title is a reference to the movie Hocus Pocus , but also, I absolutely adore Nina Simone's . High Priestess of Soul, indeed.  I tossed some potentials at Tumblr in a poll and this was what came back in first place, so here we go! Yes, I've gone back to the wasteland that is Tumblr, discovered that I'm considered ancient and decrepit for how long I've HAD a Tumblr account, and had to relearn how to Tumblr. But, that's fine! My Pace is one of the songs that had to be rerecorded following the departure of the former ninth member, so I'm not quite sure how to navigate the differences. I really want to be respectful of the situation and try to find as many post-departure performances and events as I can, but it may not be especially possible in all cases. In any case, I won't mention his name, because I'm aware that there are feelings surrounding his departure on all sides, and I follow the direction of Chan, who prefers that material of the nine of them not be used anymore. Everyone but Mr. Maknae I.M has returned from the military, and I'm pretty sure he needs to go this year. But! This is also my first review for September, which means that I have now, officially, been doing this for over a year. Whoo! I did have to round that up, mostly because the first and the last tracks on the album are under 2:45, and while I'm a little surprised that they didn't drop something longer for their tenth anniversary, the fact that they've been rereleasing their older songs both re-recorded in Korean and newly released in Japanese, clearly specifically for their tenth anniversary makes the mini album a few months later better. Whoooo! And the fact that they spent the tour giving spoilers and no one noticed. When they revealed that, I had to blink and sigh. It's fine. I'm just being clowned this year by my groups.  I could swear, I can feel that drum or bass in my bones, but I'm not even listening to it in a way that would allow me to feel it in my bones. This song doesn't feel like it's as long as it is, which is both weird and a shame.  Unless I do The Roulette Wheel, I obviously can pick which of the suggestions I've gotten that I'll write posts for. I also have a spreadsheet where I have my posts organized by generation and boy group, girl group, and co-ed. The co-ed groups definitely need more attention, but I'm taking these last few Specialty posts to focus on the girl groups because they're not my natural inclination, and while the Roulette Wheel is weighted equally, I don't like that it's uneven. So, I ignored my normal addition of the B/G/Co-Ed Wheel spin and just did it for a girl group, and I ended up with LABOUM. I've been fully distracted by K-Pop Demon Hunters. If my Threads is any indication, I'm hardly the only one. This is Jeewon! Whoo! Apparently this is her official solo debut, although she did release a solo song earlier than this. I also can say that I do occasionally listen to cignature. They're not one of my groups that make super excited to see music or content from, but I do have some of their songs in some of my playlists. It's slow and mellow, but it's not flimsy. The beat is really pronounced, though unhurried. This is an early Sunday morning kind of song, or perhaps a Tuesday night kind of song. Slow dancing in the kitchen to a song only the two of you can hear.
