Halloween Spookening: 2025 Edition
It's the most wonderful time of the year!
I'm back with a new selection of Halloween themed or generally spooky songs for you all! Have I spent the year looking for new songs for my playlist? Yes. Yes, yes I have, so if you have anymore suggestions for me, give me the creepy doll songs, the predatory wolfy songs, the haunting and the eerie. I love my Halloween playlist and I listen to it all year long, but October is the official start of when I don't get weird looks from people for listening to it. I am so excited. I get to pull out my Halloween nail polish and the glow in the dark stickers.
It's a good time to be me, and also hopefully you as well.
So the Halloween recs for you for the year 2025 are:
Welcome To The Other Side by DPR Ian
Yes, he's Australian, but he was in the K-Pop group C-Clown, which is one of my beloved 2012s, so I'm counting him. Also, this song is super spooky with dramatic strings at the beginning and artistically applied autotune and vocal effects to really make this song feel a little feral. He actually had a few songs that came onto my radar that qualify for a Halloween playlist, which is delightful for those of us who are me, but I'm going to give you this one.
Full Moon by Kihyun (Super Junior) {OST}
This is a popular title for songs, so I made the executive decision to only include one of them this year, and I figured that the OST from Tale of the Nine-Tailed would be suitable. This one is good. This one is one I'd like to do a review for just so I can get out the words of how much I like it.
Put It Straight - Nightmare version by i-dle
Thank you, Queendom for giving them the stage to do this version. Thank you, thank you, thank you. In nearly all other aspects, MNET sucks, but because of this series of survival shows, we got some incredible stages. Like this one. But also, for heightened entertainment, they did a Halloween dance practice with this.
Wolf by Woosung (The Rose)
You cannot listen to this song and tell me it's not a Halloween song. I don't care that it's under two minutes (shocking, I know).
Nightmare by Red Velvet
At this point I'm pretty sure that SM groups are the leaders of the Halloween song movement because I could do a full playlist just of SM group spooky songs, so I did try to limit that. This one is a little bit more of the haunted doll variety.
Scary Fairy Tale by IU
One of the queens gave us an absolute banger, you know. Also, she's gorgeous. That's not the point, but it does contribute. Really, the song does what it says on the tin. Gorgeous song. Gorgeous vocals. Gorgeous visuals.
Christmalo.win by Seo Taiji (Seo Taiji and Boys)
Please consider reading my Greatest Hits post for this song for more information and context, but at the same time, even if I hadn't done it then, this still would be a prime candidate for a Halloween playlist because, as I said at the time of writing it, this song is perfect for the Nightmare Before Christmas lovers in the room.
Scream by Dreamcatcher
I picked a single Dreamcatcher song even though, again, I could have filled this entire list with them because this legit is their concept.
hyde by VIXX
You all thought I would be doing VOODOO DOLL, didn't you? Nope, I went for a different song, from the same album though.
everybody's got a $ECRET by billlie
Another haunted doll type song coming to us from billlie. It does start out a little more on the Christmas side of things, and if you wanted to count it as a Christmas song, that's fine, but I'm putting it here because haunted doll, haunted music box, it's in that variety of song.
Black Widow by PRISTIN
This is a little bit of an outlier in that it's not as spooky sounding as some of the others on this list. I'll admit that, but I will include it for the seductress element, which, given how often the seductress is the villain of a story, is at least sort of in the vicinity. That being said, that choreography? Oh, it's satisfying. It is so satisfying. Seventeen's little sisters indeed.
Poison by VAV
Okay, yes. The start of this is, in particular, haunted music box and it doesn't carry through the rest of it quite as strongly. But that music video has a lot of poisonous/venomous things and it came out shortly before Halloween anyway, so I'm counting it.
Previous years: 2024
Like with the other one, as much as I do recommend the videos included in this post, sometimes you may just want some Spookening and not have to worry about a bunch of links. So, I'm including the playlist. I did change last year's so that it's now via YouTube Music instead of Spotify (for a number of reasons, not least of which being that I assumed that after...you know, this many years that you could just LISTEN to specific songs but apparently not and that's garbage). Have a lovely Halloween, everyone! I will see you next year for a new round of songs!
