So. A couple of things. One, she was the last member of After School to leave Pledis after fifteen years. Which, you know, good for her. I hope she's happy in her new home. (I have thoughts, but they're basically conspiracy theories because I don't have enough evidence to back them up (yet)). Pledis, for the record, never gave the official notice for After School and also, After School and Orange Caramel are both still listed on their website as current artists (you'll notice that Pristin, who got a disbandment notice that used the word disbandment about four or five times, isn't listed and neither is fromis_9, who is at a new company). Two, I'm pretty sure this is her solo debut. I'm going to check around again to make sure, and if this isn't, I'll mention when her actual debut was. But I think she finally debuted as a soloist. I would have done this earlier had I realized this was her solo debut, but here we are. Three, her voice is stunningly incredible. And obviously I'm partial to all the members of After School anyway because I generally love all of Pledis's groups (the company sucks, but they know how to form stupidly talented groups, especially when they tend to just pick kids up off the street like stray cats and cast them that way), but this is Nana. She and Raina have Top Tier™️voices. And given what her former company is and who is currently still at said company as After School's grand-dongsaengs, the title of the album is, well, a little amusing. And it must be said, shout out to Nana for being very hands on with this debut, even if the title track is painfully short.

I'm deeply amused at the fact that the track with the instrumental is not the lead single. Amused and confused, but luckily I hadn't gone too far into the review for Hurt when I realized that one was not the debut song. There's a very nice weight to the instrumental that feels a little bit like stomping in stilettos, or at minimum strutting in stilletos. And it goes a bit haunted doll for the last quarter, so the entirety of the song is actually pretty Halloween-appropriate. I love the electric guitar at the end.

Does this highlight her voice like I want it to? No. But this is also Halloween appropriate, and also a bit haunted doll with those ethereal, gorgeous adlibs at the end with the focus on the religiosity. I can forgive and ignore a lot of things if they're spooky, you know? But also the line "I'm just water in a coconut shell" goes surprisingly hard. Explicit language is used, so do be aware of that, and Nana was involved in both lyrics and composition for the song, so good for her.

But you know what's even cooler? She directed the music video and used her years of acting experience in this. I want you to be aware of how much delicious symbolism is packed into this. Storyline. Choreography. It's absolutely amazing and so perfectly suited for Halloween. I just want everyone to know that this is art.
