Song Review:: ZEROBASEONE: RE-FLOW- LOVEPOCALYPSE

 Well, if that isn't one of the sappiest titles I've seen in a while, I don't know what is. Genuinely. It still remains to be seen what kind of song, and this album will be for the group, but until we get some definitive answers, this song is kind of in a limbo state and very much feels like a trio of farewell songs. I haven't heard this one yet, but the brief descriptions I've gotten of it, I'd call this a farewell trio.

The majority of the song has a skittering trap beat laid beneath some much need science fiction warbles. That being said, this song also is not one that is particularly energetic. It's not particularly weighty, which is something that I would have expected so the fact that I'm not getting that is surprising. Not that this is an overly sappy sounding song, but it's also not particularly dramatic. The instrumental is in a weird spot. If this is their last song, they aren't going out with a bang, nor with a whimper. Instead of continuing with the energy builds we've got, the song drops but the energy isn't propelled.

Vocally, this sounds like a bit like a TOMORROW X TOGETHER song, though it is longer than a lot of their songs have been recently. The baton passing between the members is quite interesting, where it's not quite a call and response, but it's also not clearly delineated. This is a weird choice for a potential disbandment song. Not that I don't like it, because I do. This is going in the playlist. But it's rather mild and very much not as much of a statement piece as I was expecting.

Oh, goody. It's one of the "look at our past and how much fun we've had together" music videos. The documentary style. I do actually love them as a genre; they just pull on the heart strings a lot harder when it's a song with this kind of function, you know? I hope the members, in whatever future they have, continue to support each other, even if it's away from the public eye. Thank you for all of your hard work, ZEROBASEONE.

 Whichever LOVE sent this in and specifically requested I time this release to come out when Minhyun gets out, I love you. GUESS WHAT EVERYONE! MINHYUN HAS BEEN DISCHARGED. I try to avoid the caps lock, but I'm honestly so happy I could cry.  Thank You (Evening by Evening) is the fourth track from their fifth mini album, Canvas, which sold a grand total of 10 first day units and was released in 2016. I'll let that sink in for a second. The things you learn, and honestly, I couldn't be prouder of their survival with that little factoid.  I decided to have my first one of these for 2026 be something upbeat.  Plus, considering they had their tenth anniversary last year and I didn’t do anything for them then (because that was during my lean months), I figure that this would be a good one to go with now. I’m pretty sure that this isn’t one of their softer songs, but I like the idea of starting off the year with a song called “Beautiful” anyway because it taps into the romantic and sentimental bit of my soul that attaches like a barnacle to some of these groups. So, this is the title track, and second track, for their first album, The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter, which was released in 2017, and what do you mean it was produced by someone whose stage name is Star Wars? First of all, the title track? I think that's actually a password, and I love that. I also am wholly in love with the song title "Delulu Solulu". Plus, this feels like an important note, we've had a new member added to the group since the last time I wrote something for this group, and  she is not a minor. Battle of the B-Sides:: f(x): Shadow

 I love when I get suggestions for groups that I've heard of but haven't actively listened to. I know that f(x) has several songs that are on the list of K-Pop influential songs that pretty much everyone should be familiar with, if they don't know  them. I don't think this is one of them, because this is a b-side, but I could also be wrong. Which is why I like being able to dig into the albums and the songs a little bit. So, this comes from their second studio album Pink Tape, released in 2013, which won a bonsaeng in 2014 at the GDAs, and hit number 1 on multiple music charts worldwide. One of the songs on the album was originally supposed to be Ariana Grande's song, and f(x) got it instead. So that's pretty cool.  I wanted my last "normal" (ish) post of the year to be a Battle of the B-Sides, before I start hitting the December wrap-up and the year recap hard, to be appropriate for going into the new year. There were a couple of things I was thinking about for it. For my last Greatest Hits of 2025, I did a big hitter in the form of IVE from The Form and that had me thinking about this last post. Do I do one of my top three groups? Do I do an old group? Do I match it in energy? Do I soften it a bit? Higher energy? Do I do a more obscure group or do I do one of the big hitters? Do I grab something from The Form as well, or do I do something that I pick? The answer to all of these questions: my drafts.  I was so busy this month. Y'all. I didn't do a ton of the reviews, which is coming back to bite me in the butt now that I'm trying to get my year end post worked on. It's fine. Past Fangirl hates Future Fangirl, and it's completely fine.  July debuts! I only did a single review for a debut group this month, and it was for AHOF , who has been doing quite well for a rookie group. I may get 1verse reviewed because I still feel guilty about not reviewing them. Debuts I didn't cover: CrazAngel (girl group), Tomatomat (girl group), 1verse (boy group), 4X4 (girl group) and SEVENTOEIGHT  (boy group).   Big Ocean JJ (subunit of Big Ocean) also debuted.  I got this a bit ago as a suggestion, but I just kept putting it on hold. However, considering Taeyong is now discharged (and I get to pull his photocard off my Enlistment Wall now yay ), I'm going to dust this one off and do it. I would have had this out for his discharge but I lost track of when he was getting discharged. Sorry. I am also slightly afraid of this song because I haven't heard it and whoever submitted it wrote "enjoy the lyrics ;)" and I can't decide which is likelier: if this is going to have lyrics like Smoothie or if it has lyrics that I am definitely going to mishear and make them worse than they are, because a comment like that could go either way.
