Song Review:: ZEROBASEONE: RE-FLOW- Running to Future {Pre-Release}
- Release date: 2026 January 09
- Album tracklist: Running to Future
- Album runtime: 3 minutes
The group is in a weird sort of limbo right now, where their original contracts are technically up and they're on an extension of sorts. I want the members to make the best choices for the group and for themselves, and I hope the various companies involved put the members first and foremost in the negotiations.
Ah, this is appropriate for the context around this song while simultaneously being pretty true to ZEROBASEONE's sound. It's got really good energy, and the danceability of this song is really high. I'm looking forward to seeing how beautiful this choreography is, because anything less and it's not worthy of this instrumental. It's a difficult balance to achieve, what with how soft the energy is and how smooth it is. It's not necessarily heartbreaking, but the softness lends a level of bittersweetness to the song that I love. This is the kind of song you sing along to on a night drive, windows down, when you're in That Mood.
Vocally, this is gorgeous, and I love that they're getting to show off their vocals like they are. Best part? We get harmonizations and layering, we get vibrato, and we get a belted duet. Check, check, check. The three things I look for with groups, with an extra because I hope for but don't expect a duet with the belt. I think this is one of the first songs I've reviewed with it. ZEROBASEONE also consistently gives me those three things, which is one of the reasons why I like listening to them. And, the rapping is consistently toned, though lower in pitch than, with the vocals. I love this. Could not be happier.
Well if those lyrics aren't heartbreaking. I amend my previous statement. I love that we got some behind the scenes from multiple different eras if I'm recognizing the hair correctly. This is an emotional one, but it's also not saying that this is necessarily an ending yet.
