Song Review:: BLACKPINK: Deadline- GO

 Well, here we go. Four more songs added to their discography, which means their entire group discography is still less than forty songs after ten years. Still, despite that, I'm very happy for the BLINKS to be able to get this from them, and I hope you all really enjoy the songs. Good news, the title track is over three minutes, so it's not skimpy that way and I am pleased.

The instrumental sounds like two different songs. I actually really like the less packed version, because it reminds me of a song that comes during the ending credits of a YA dystopia based-on-the-book film. It's agitated enough that there's a strong energy to the song, but it's settled enough that the energy reads as determined rather than distressed for the most part. The chorus has a very strong sound by contrast and it's a continued disruption of the rest of the song, but it's not completely disjointed. And we're getting what I think is going to be an EDM dance break, which I couldn't be happier about.

Is this all in English? Interesting. That's a very interesting choice for this. I'm also not hearing their trademark "BLACKPINK in your area!" which is a lot more disappointing than I thought it would be, but we do get their name chanted, so it's not a total loss. I'm not sure that I'm going to add it to my elite tier of all time faves, but I do like this well enough that I'll likely add it to at least one playlist. There's something about this song that reminds me of that one Lady Gaga song, which does have my attention a little bit because I like the bits of that one that I've heard. 

We're still not escaping those vibes. Interestingly, this music video feels like a perfume commercial, and I'm not sure how to explain that any further.

 This comes from my submission form, and it's the first one I'm doing from there! Whoo! I was going to put this off a little because I just did a 2012 debut for a Battle of the B-Sides post, but oh, well! I have a feeling that this one isn't like that song either, so I'm less worried about doing too much of the same. Variety, yes, but I can do what I want and the few songs I've already heard of theirs ( Chained Up is in many of my playlists) I've liked already. How much of that is because I know they're in the 2012 debut club, which automatically enters them into my category of groups I look upon favorably, I don't know.  I was honestly wondering when I was going to get a submission for a group that has been getting awards specifically because they've been getting awards. Well, that has finally happened. I'm assuming it was a DIVE that dropped this submission for me, although I've also never had a submission specifically asking me for other kpop groups covering the song in question. So this one took a little bit more time in that I had to hunt down some covers. It was an intriguing request. I appreciate it. I'm also combining it with an earlier submission that I got for this song, but hadn't gotten around to doing yet. Song Review:: BTS: ARIRANG- SWIM

Release date: 2026 March 20 Album tracklist: Body to Body, Hooligan, Aliens, FYA, 2.0, No. 29, SWIM , Merry Go Round, NORMAL, Like Animals, they don't know 'bout us, One More Night, Please, Into the Sun Album runtime: 41 minutes  Well, here we are, folks. A much awaited comeback. Let's just get to it. I did take note of the runtime and we're just shy of a three minute runtime average for the album, and the title track is less than three, which I'm not as pleased about, but that's par for the course with HYBE title tracks lately. At least it's over two-and-a-half minutes, so I'm not going to whine too much. Also, I took off the NU'EST nail polish of two of my nails and painted one of them purple in honor of this comeback. I'm very curious to see what they've got for us and I'll be taking a listen to the whole album to find the song I like best, which is likely to be a b-side given my track record.  I hunted through his discography for a song that would match what I wanted this post to do. For a number of reasons I'll get into in the next post, even though this will be posted on NU'EST's anniversary, I'm not doing one of theirs then. Instead, I wanted to do an RM song because BTS has an album coming out in the next week and I wanted to honor the friendship between the two groups, and because I finally get to pull JR's photocard off my enlistment wall next week as well, I wanted to do RM specifically. Both of them are rapper leaders, neither of them is the eldest member of their group. They debuted around the same time, they're both Kims, they're less than a year apart in age, and because their groups had near-disbandment-causing struggles early in their careers, they have that connection as well. Song Review:: V01D: 01- Tug of War {Debut}

 I waffled back an forth on what song I wanted to do here a lot. I thought I'd made a decision, and then I decided against it. Then I'd made another decision, and decided against it. Then, I went back to my original thought, and here we are. I have, like, three songs that I keep circling that I want to talk about, but that also means putting them in a spot where they support the songs to either side (in this case BTOB and Stray Kids) and also stand out well on their own. I feel for the people who decide the order to put songs in an album or for a setlist. It's not easy. Battle of the B-Sides: ATEEZ: Utopia

 I wanted my last "normal" (ish) post of the year to be a Battle of the B-Sides, before I start hitting the December wrap-up and the year recap hard, to be appropriate for going into the new year. There were a couple of things I was thinking about for it. For my last Greatest Hits of 2025, I did a big hitter in the form of IVE from The Form and that had me thinking about this last post. Do I do one of my top three groups? Do I do an old group? Do I match it in energy? Do I soften it a bit? Higher energy? Do I do a more obscure group or do I do one of the big hitters? Do I grab something from The Form as well, or do I do something that I pick? The answer to all of these questions: my drafts.  Happy fourteenth anniversary, NU'EST! Happy discharge, JR! One of those has already happened, and the other will be happening in a few days! I cannot even tell you how much I am vibrating with excitement over JR's discharge. But as much as I love both NU'EST and JR, not everyone does, so I elected to do a post between the two events, rather than do one for both. I could have. I had a JR solo song selected for his discharge, although I might hold onto it for his birthday now that he'll be out. Song Review:: SUCTION: Still Hurts {Debut}

Release date: 2026 March 05 Album track list: Still Hurts , Still Hurts, (Inst.) Album runtime: 6 mi nutes  This is the most interesting co-ed group to drop in years, arguably one of the most interesting groups full stop in years. There are two notable K-Pop names in here: Narsha from Brown Eyed Girls and MJ from ASTRO. That right there is a duo to raise eyebrows considering they debuted ten years apart, but to join them are all-rounder entertainer Kwon Hyuksoo and comedian Na Hyunyoung.  I'm getting a very strong second gen vibe from this instrumental, which we get because the debut single includes it. Yay. There are shades of 80s techno as well, which is a delightful combination. There's a strong energy to the song that I'm excited to see how it translates vocally, especially with this combination of artists.
