So, I forgot to take a look at the ages before I got on the plane, so I have no idea if this is should be on Underage Protocol or not. I’m going to put it there as a temporary hold in case they should be. Of course, should I get off the plane before I get this paragraph finished, then I’ll check during the fifteen minute layover I’ve got. (Spoilers: I did not.) If I don’t, then I’ll do the Underage Protocol just in case and look later.
It’s not quite fully with the street-clanging, but it’s circling around that sound in what feels like a hip-hop genre. It’s got a weirdly midi sound to it sometimes, which definitely does make it intriguing, but it’s a bit too disjointed and noisy for me to say I love it on the basis of the instrumental alone.
I’m treating this as a debut single even if it could be a pre-debut song. There’s a lot of rapping in this song, which I feel like is becoming more popular with the girl groups the last few years. I’m trying to decide if the autotune I’m hearing is supposed to be there on purpose, or if it’s a necessity that they didn’t manage to hide like they should have. If you’re looking for a song with a lot of female rapping, you may like this. However, there’s nothing really that makes them stand out a lot, other than the interesting choice of genre, which does a lot of heavy lifting, but if you’re going to be in this genre with the likes of XG and young posse, not to mention the other, older groups, then you’d better have something interesting going on with the song.
This is a perfectly fine music video. It's all vibes and visuals, which is fine. There's not a lot of color, which is also fine. I'm a little perplexed by some of the fashion choices on the part of the stylists, but that's fine. It doesn't really scream "Look at me" though, which is a shame.
