Song Review:: YUHZ: Orange Record- Rush Rush {Debut}

  • Release date: 2026 May 07
  • Album tracklist: Rush Rush, Supalove, Rush Rush (Inst.)
  • Album runtime: 8 minutes

 Two and a half minutes for a debut song. Not even, technically. That's a big sigh from me. So! Who is this group? Well, it's the debuting team from the survival show B:Boys, which was as pleasant to watch as Boys II Planet was brutal. I didn't go into every episode dreading the elimination because they didn't have fifty getting eliminated at a time. Not that they didn't work incredibly hard, but it's easier to take as a viewer when it's at most three trainees getting eliminated, you know? I'm very excited to see what they'll do, though even if I'm as disappointed by this runtime as I am. Also, the eldest has already completed his military service (yay) and the two youngest are the only members who are underage, and they'll both be seventeen by the end of the year. Also also, there is a huge Monbebe in the group. He was beside himself when members of Monsta X came on to help as mentors and judges. It was adorable.

The instrumental for this song reminds me a bit of Back In Time by Huey Lewis and the News (Supernatural fans will know that one as the song from "Mystery Spot") but slightly more skating rink from the early 80s. I like the cute little whistle at the beginning and what sounds like a single note of a violin in places. There's a weird echo quality to the instrumental, that I'm going to double check on when I get back home to make sure it's not my headphones, that I don't know how I feel about. It feels a bit like this song is the movie soundtrack version of a musical, if that makes sense. Technically it's complete, but it just feels like something got cut and you can only hear the whole song in the actual album, which is where you find out that the song actually has another verse and a bridge and a dance break, and then people whine about the missing parts not actually being in the movie. For a debut song, there is a bit of vibrancy that I like to see and it's not really something that I've been hearing a lot of lately. So that's good.

This has a classically "survival group" sound to the vocals. Like, this group has gone back to the basics of Produce 101. I guess it feels a little unfinished? I'm assuming that the majority of that is because of the runtime, because you've got a group of eight now debuted trainees, and two and a half minutes isn't enough time to use all of the members they've got well. What we've got from them is solid work, with strong vocals, although it sounds like the note for the belt during the ad-libs might be a bit too high for the member that's doing it (but that's mostly a writing issue because I assume the song was purchased rather than written for the group and their voices, and it doesn't look like any of the members are on the writing list). There's a variety of vocal textures between the vocals and the rapping, but at the same time there isn't a particularly distinct voice, yet. While it would have been better to have a group where they have that distinction present from the start, as the group develops and gains confidence and all of the things you'd expect, we may also see development of distinct voices. Hopefully the company lets them each get vocal lessons from different teachers, so we can get that and it'll strengthen the group as a whole. Healthy biodiversity in the vocal ecosystems.

If they don't also promote Supalove, I'm going to be vibrantly disappointed. This is a strong song, and I'm baffled about why this wasn't chosen as the debut and title track.

This is a very cute music video all about getting back up when you fail, even if when you fail, you've got some petty nasty consequences, like the broken arm. Which is also very on brand considering the concept of the show and the makeup of the debuting group.
