Guess what, everyone! I get to expand my review offerings! This is not going to be a permanent addition to the lineup of what I write because I don't have enough time to write all of the K-Pop releases, let alone all of the other songs being released literally every day all over the world. However, I've also been very clear about the fact that if you submit a song for a review, I will cover it, no matter how old or who the artist is. It might take me a few days, but it will get done. This is the first time someone has taken me up on that part. Arctic Monkeys is an English (and by that, I mean from England and not speaking English, just for clarification) rock band that I've heard of and I know I've heard some of their music, but if you asked me for titles or what any of them sound like, I could not tell you. So, this will be interesting to see if I remember hearing this song when it came out.
There's a very heavy weight to the song in the instrumental. There's an entire verse where the instrumental is just the drum and audience participation clapping, and combined with the slow BPM, it causes the entire song to hit heavy and hard. I have to give some kudos to the drummer for the concentration required to maintain this accurately. It's slow and relentless, with the guitars taking the brunt of the heavy carrying for any sort of a melody, but when they're doing their thing, the entire effect is wonderfully unsettling. It's got the same weight and prowl as a tiger in the jungle stalking its prey. (As a side note, I forgot to put this on repeat to listen to it, and the next song on the album, R U Mine?, has an instrumental, specifically a guitar, that reminds me so much of live performances of Hot by Seventeen that I had to take a second to double check.)
Look, I have not been shy about the fact that I love lower male voices. Even though realistically, I'm pretty sure the voices we're listening to are a bit more mid-range, there's an attitude to the vocals that makes them sound deeper. Eyes half-lidded, lip curled up into a sneer, manspreading on a throne. The weight from the instrumentals translates into dominance from the vocals in a very interesting way, and, I'd have to check the lyrics but as long as I'm not mishearing anything, it's a very possessive song. It's got some strong Mafia AU vibes.
This is a fascinating visualizer that reminds me of a cartoon from the 70s. It's got a lot of the same color and animation style. This is cool. And just stick with it because the sound vibrations do change.
And because the person who submitted also gave me a performance that they really liked. I could not find it. However, I did find one from the same year that's also through BBC and the sound of the crowd singing along with the guitar at the beginning gave me chills. So. That's the one that you're going to get. I apologize if that's not what you meant.
