Greatest Hits:: BADVILLAIN: BADVILLAIN

Image
 Alright, Champions, buckle up. I'm full of fire and vinegar over this song. If you remember back in June, I posted One Spark by TWICE because I watched a video on YouTube of the worst releases of 2024 and I took particular umbrage at One Spark being on the list (there was an ITZY release there as well, which I also am incensed about, but I still have to figure out how to bridge the regular reviews with the Expanded Offerings posts, since we're now officially at a time when I could start covering songs I've already reviewed). It was not the only song on there that I immediately wanted to yell about, but I waited for an opportune moment. To the person who made the video, this song is not "boring, idk". The month of Spookening felt like an ideal placement for BADVILLAIN in the same vein that true crime is technically classified under horror, and as the song is now two years old, I mentally slotted it into October. However. Then I decided that I wanted to have Septem...

Song Review:: Park Geonroung (Play With Me Club): Wave {Debut}

Image
Release date: 2026 August 20 Album tracklist:  WAVE (feat. Joohoney) Album runtime: 2  minutes  Y'all may not know him by his name, but you probably know who he is. This is Baby Shark Boy. It's funny that this song blew up like this. I remember being at Girl's Camp singing Baby Shark back in 2008, which was the same year that he was born. Wow, I suddenly feel old. This isn't actually his full debut because he debuted in a kid's group back in 2020 in something that in concept reminds me of the Mickey Mouse Club. But this is his official solo debut. Huh. I didn't realize Joohoney was involved in this. We've got a pretty mild, bubbly instrumental for most of the song with the "Baby shark doo doo" that made him famous popping up occasionally, which also provides much of the very bubbly sound to the instrumental. The shift and the key change at the end turns the song into an ending song from something like High School Musical. This is a very bright song...

Halloween Spookening: 2026 Edition

Image
 Everyone! It is time for the best season of the year! We're back with another batch of songs for the month of Spookening! Whoo! As always, because I am a connoisseur of the creepy, I spend basically all year scouring for the spooky and the dark songs. Basically, if I'm not in a specific mood playlist or my regular listening playlist, I've had my ears buried in spooky playlists. And I found some whoppers, but I can only fit so many into this unless I want to make it four hours long. You'd have to get my personal Halloween playlist if you want one that long though.  It's the most wonderful time of the year! Without any further ado, here are your 2026 Halloween recs: Mirotic by TVXQ! You may be wondering why I'm putting this song in a Halloween playlist when it's famously known for being quite sexy, and sexiness alone does not qualify it for this playlist. However, I'd like to point out the elements of the music video which would qualify it for this playl...

Song Review:: Red Velvet: Velvet Summer- Surfin' Boy

Image
Release date: 2026 August 03 Album tracklist: Surfin' Boy , Hot Girls Cold Vibe, Orchestra, Hula Hoop, Hawaii Album runtime: 15 minutes  Congrats on the win! I was trying to delay listening to this until I got around to the review, because I'm so behind, but now that it's finally time to post the Music Show Wins that this got a win on, I get to enjoy the summer album from the third gen summer queens. I love their velvet concepts because most of them are just spooky and I love that. But their red concepts are some of my favorite hype songs. Call me crazy but this sounds like a minor key. Which fits then that this is a velvet summer per the album title. Well named. There's something odd about the instrumental that I've been trying to put my finger on for a couple of days now, which is why it's taken me so long, but I have to because it got a win. Not that I wouldn't anyway. It almost sounds like a preset on a midi keyboard, or at least like that's the base...

Battle of the B-Sides:: HOT ISSUE: We Go

Image
 Okay, everyone! Back to my September of groups that deserve more attention because they shouldn't be forgotten! This isn't even the newest group that we're going to be talking about this month because the next one is even younger, but I think they have survived technically longer. I've actually got a couple of HOT ISSUE's songs in one of my playlists already, though this is not one of them. I just decided that I wanted something a lot more upbeat than what I was going to get from S#arp. So. The reality is the group lasted less than a year, which is even worse than the three year average for girl groups. But the song doesn't know that. HOT ISSUE debuted in 2021 as a seven-member group under S2 Entertainment, a company that was set up by one of the founders of Cube Entertainment, which automatically tells me that this group has some vocals on them. It also makes sense that I found them and added songs to playlists despite their less than a year of official activi...

Battle of the B-Sides:: The Boyz: Survive The Night

Image
I'm not super familiar with most of their discography and even though Sangyeon was on my enlistment wall (I've got a softness for him because his birthday is near mine), I wasn't initially planning on doing a discharge post for him. Then, to my surprise, I got this request in The Form from someone who just found my little blog from a post I shared on Tumblr, asking if I'd do this song for Sangyeon's discharge. Naturally! Discharge posts and anniversary posts are two of my favorite kinds of posts to do because they're just happy times usually. And I'm excited to do this specific one because while I've heard a couple of songs from this album, I haven't actually heard this one, so you're also introducing me to a new song. I also find it slightly satisfying that I'd already planned to do a song by a group from this company (sort of) this month, so I'm very much not opposed to including The Boyz here because they too have languished under a ga...
