Song Review:: Bang Yongguk (B.A.P): Motion

  • Release date: 2025 May 26
  • Album tracklist: Motion, Motion - Instrumental
  • Album runtime: 7 minutes

I have a friend who will be super happy that he released this. I haven't heard it yet, but B.A.P are some of her babies, so I can't imagine she won't be excited. She, like me, really loves the 2012 groups and I think it's hilarious that we didn't originally bond over kpop, but D&D (our characters became joined at the hip rather quickly and also produce probably 90% of the chaos in the party, druid and barbarian. Who would have thought?) I know they can't go by the name B.A.P, but there's nothing that says I can't call them that. He might actually have been the one to say that in the one clip I saw during promotions for Bang&Jung&Yoo&Moon. All I know is TS Entertainment sucks. Royally. But I also know that this man's voice is in the basement and it sends shivers down my spine.

Okay, I'm down with this. Smooth R&B, I'm pretty sure. I like the inclusion of the instrumental track because then I don't get distracted by that voice of his. This is very mellow and it kind of feels like coffee shop background music a little. Weirdly, it also kind of makes me think of that first beach section in Final Fantasy XV, the first time you fish and when you meet the reporter for the first time ( I just restarted it a few weeks ago because I got a hankering for the cooking mechanic and the chocobo riding). So I don't exactly know what the specific vibe is for both "coffee house" and "video game beach". But that's where this song is at.

It takes about fifteen seconds for the vocals to come in. It might just be me and how long I was listening to the instrumental, but it does sound like Yongguk's voice is a little overpowered by the instruments. Yongguk and Ilhoon seem to be going with roughly the same style these days vocally, along with a lot of autotune applied for style. His voice, you guys.

Okay, I swear I didn't watch the music video before I started this section. But that also means that the music video for this song matches incredibly well. It also kind of feels like Yongguk is just making and releasing music because he feels like it, which I am thoroughly approving of. It's also a very boyfriend-coded music video, which is another thing that I'm completely here for. I'm also a huge fan of the Super8 film or 80s home video styling for the music video itself. Perfect summer song.
