I knew I recognized her name. I don't know if this is actually the case or not, but I have her departure from LOONA as being the catalyst for the split that has resulted in ARTMS and Loossemble. I mean, that whole situation is interesting, and hopefully they get to perform together again soon, even if it's not under their name. In the meantime, soloists and the two groups are where the fans are at. I applaud their patience. And for the runtime, the title track is over three minutes, so I'm fine. Side note and unrelated, the French title messed up my brain a tiny bit because I tried to write the one after it in French twice before I managed to get my brain back to English even though the words were right there in English for me to copy. Multilingual problems, am I right? Another side note, I really love the album artwork.
We've got some strong 80s vibes out of these instrumentals. Irresistibly strong, actually. It's not a particularly aggressive song, and I could swear that I could hear her melodies being matched in the instrumentals specifically through the chorus. It's one of my favorite tricks with instrumentals.
The vibrato is killing me. It's not second gen prevalent, but it's definitely audible. So I'm so satisfied. She's got a lovely voice that actually gets shown off in this song, I'd peg her for being an upper mezzo or a first soprano, honestly, so the song is fully within her vocal range without making her sound overly cute or young. It's a good sound on her, and the song shows it off well.
So a couple things about this. First of all, I really like the transition to and from the animated segment. It adds a little crunch to the music video. I'm delighted by the amount of storyline we're getting. Stylistically, this is feels both home movie and also like it was filmed on Super8 film, which was a popular format for home videos in the 1980s, matching the musical aesthetic. It also kind of screams indie film, like something that would be shown at Sundance or at Cannes. Does it also feel a little sapphic? Yes. This section isn't for a full analysis, but this would be one of those times where a proper analysis would actually be possible, and that would be roughly the conclusion that I would come to, with other bits using that to supplement whatever point I'd have come to.
