Yes, the title of the debut album for the brand-new rock band duo is "Debut". I chuckled about it. I also had a bit of a difficult time finding anything about this duo. I had to go into the song credits to get names, and then I had to hunt them down individually. It turns out that the duo consists of E Hyuk, who originally debuted in 2003 with the band Open Head but didn't hit his stride until 2005 with Norazo, and Jungmo, not to be confused with the Cravity member and who debuted in 2004 in the band TRAX or TraxX. So you get information I didn't have when I started writing the review, but it should give you some expectations for the song. And there's only one song that isn't over three minutes, and it's still closer to three minutes than some recent title tracks. So I'm all about this.
It was a struggle to focus down on the instrumentals of this song instead of basking in their voices. I just want all of you to know this. Serious, serious struggle But this reminds me of 80s music in the best way It is glorious. It starts off a little soft, but there's a soft rumble of anticipation that I didn't notice until I found myself unsurprised by what came later. It's kind of interesting that I didn't just slot it into a soft and fluffy category because that's kind of where the song starts. The song never really loses that softness, even when it transitions into proper rock. This by the way is the point when I looked these guys up because I couldn't tell if they were like TVXQ or if they were an actual band. Not that it really matters but I had a suspicion. Also, the song has pretty fabulous audience participation snapping in spots. But, legitimately, this has a lot of pieces to the instrumental I really like. As energized as the song feels on the surface, it's a comfort fest. It really is.
Okay, now the part I actually want to talk about, not that I didn't enjoy the instrumentals, but I was so distracted by their voices that it took a lot of brainpower to dig into it. I don't know what it was that possessed me to add this song to my upcoming reviews even though I'm so behind and I didn't recognize the group name, but I'm so glad it did. This is scratching an itch like you wouldn't believe. It's just all vibrato all the time from both of them, which is something that I miss hearing with younger groups. Companies really need to train their idols how to use their vibratos instead of training them not to use them because they add such amazing depth and texture to songs. And the vibrato and the belts really are what told me the age of them, more than just what I suspected from their artist picture. The excellent control to pop into falsetto for a single note. How the sounds come out of their mouths. Y'all. I'm so glad that whatever possessed me did, because I sincerely need to shout about how amazing they are from the rooftops. I'm a little bit in love. Not going to lie.
So that music video is just the cutest. It's got a storyline that had me going "JUST HOLD HER HAND TAKE THAT LEAP BRO JUST DO IT," but the hesitance was also just so adorable. So storyline, check! We got some close-ups on one of them playing the guitar during his solo, and yes, that's very, very attractive. So display of competence, check! It's just overall so heartfelt. And that little message at the end? I love you, you guys.
