Song Review:: ALLDAY PROJECT: FAMOUS- FAMOUS {Debut}
- Release date: 2025 June 23
- Album tracklist: FAMOUS, WICKED
- Album runtime: 5 minutes
I'm doing the review of this late enough that certain members of this group have already caused...a stir that feels unnecessary, you know? Did that need to happen with him? Nope. I'm not super cool with it. I don't know if it was him or the stylist, but either way, didn't need to happen. Let's do better. In other news, we've got a group of all adults, so as long as we don't have more issues in the future, they don't need to go on Underage Protocol. I believe that Woochan was part of Trainee A, which makes him the third one to debut from that group with another slated to debut in BigHit's next boy group next month. So, fingers crossed that Woochan gets a healthy career with this group. The runtime for their debut single is not ideal, but the title track is right at three minutes, so it could be worse.
This is a heavy set of instrumentals. It starts off deceptively light, and then it just gets so grungy and thick through most of the song. It'd call it a slog because that has the appropriate weight, except it's not dull enough to warrant the connotations with that word because it doesn't stay that way throughout. There's almost an Indian vibe to the instrumentals, which comes through most strongly in the sections where the song softens a little, and also at the beginning.
So, uh, maybe it's just me, and I recognize that there's no way I would have been able to make this statement had it not taken me a month to get to this song, but I'm hearing a lot of In Your Fantasy by ATEEZ with the style of the vocals. Technically, I should be saying IYF is like FAMOUS, because of when they respectively were released, but also to be fair, I'm hearing some 96ers as well, and that came out a lot earlier than either of these two songs. It's the low, sing-song not quite singing but not quite rapping either. I'm tolerating it pitched low a lot better than I do pitched high, but if this is the new version of the milquetoast, background elevator music of the last trend that frustrates me to no end due to the limited amount of oomph that the song can have, I don't know how long I'll be okay with this genre and style. For now, it hasn't been overused yet, at least not that I know of, but I am also ludicrously behind. That being said, the tones of their voices are very YG, and while I know that they're from BlackLabel, that's YG lite. Does the song even have ad-libs, though? There's no display of vocals here. It sounds good, but the song doesn't give any of them a chance to do much, which would be more fine if this wasn't their debut song and the statement they're making to the world is something that doesn't say a lot regarding what I assume is the quality and strength of their vocals. This isn't directed towards the members. This isn't their fault. Also, the song itself is more hip-hop, which is fine and something that I do take into consideration, but at the same time, I want a vocal display, even if it's small.
So, yes, this is a vibes and visuals music video. However, you want to know what I see a lot of? Obvious symbolism. It is sparking the English major analytics brain something fierce. It's also been a really long time since I've had to do analysis without knowing context, but that doesn't mean I don't still want to try. So even though we get a lot of vibes and swagger, which makes me raise an eyebrow because debut (the members apparently do actually have some street cred from pre-debut and the lyrics do say something about not being famous yet), it's mitigated quite a bit by the fact that these aren't unknown trainees who seemed to sprout into existence at announcement in the group. Overall though, I'm down with this music video. A certain hairstyle has me wrinkling my nose a little, but again, I don't know whose decision that was.
Edit 07/28: Sigh. Welp, the entire group is getting dumped into Underage Protocol for the near future unless we get some behavior changes and apologies. Really? Seriously, Tarrzan? I'm now inclined to believe that I can blame you for the styling issues.
