- Album runtime: 7 minutes
Well, okay, I seem to have picked up a new girl group. They're a fresh debut, November of 2024. Eldest is currently twenty-three, and the maknae is a minor, but she was the only minor and she was sixteen at debut. So, check, and check. We are good. It also looks like W!TCHX is their second group, but the first disbanded last year after a three year run. Which is a little concerning, especially since they didn't get an official notice. But! I endeavor to give attention to these groups! And also, I ran across this song because of the algorithm and went "When did this come out?" Then I was pleasantly surprised because that meant I got to cover it. And it's slightly under three-and-a-half minutes long, which is even better. I'll need to take a look at their debut and the song they released in December, and sulk a little that we've only gotten singles from them so far.
And there's an instrumental, so I can take a listen to that. This song is like the love child of Nightmare by Jihyo and bang by After School. It almost sounds like they've got a snare drum going on with the spooky EDM. Well, I can't actually decide if it's properly spooky or not, because it's also got sort of a science fiction thing going on. Street racing on some sort of futuristic bike at night in the rain, or maybe racing through the streets. Actually, you know what this kind of reminds me of? Bayonetta. Toss this song in to be a fight theme for a witch with prehensile hair and guns in her shoes, and it'll be right at home.
Vocally, I'm reminded of Purple Kiss and Dreamcatcher, two other groups I've picked up that are not disbanded as that seems to be my lot in life. The rappers have different tones, which I appreciate, and they're contrasting well with the vocalists. There's also a delightful belt that isn't quite as prominent as I'd like, but it exists, so I'm not going to complain overmuch, especially when it's harmonized. The ad-libs are gorgeous, although I'm annoyed that that member isn't getting to use the vibrato she has, because if there's ever a spot to have vibratos unleashed, it's during the ad-libs. You know?
So they don't seem to have a music video for the song, but they do have the choreography available, so I'll give you that. I was really, really hoping for choreography that companies would let boy groups do without having to alter them, which I got, but I also noticed that one of the members looks like a young Shannon Doherty. I mean, she short-circuited my brain a little bit. But that is some darn good choreography, and so I'm off to go find a stage of his performed.
