Song Review:: 8TURN: Electric Heart : Born to Glow- Electric Heart

  • Release date: 2025 August 21

  • Album tracklist: Electric Heart, Close To Me

  • Album runtime: 7 minutes

I was actually really pleased with them when they were here on tour, and also, two of the members loved it so much, they were like "I want to move here." That makes me happy, and hopeful that we'll get more kpop coming here because so far, our numbers have not been high for that. Beyond that, I thought they performed well and even though they were not quite as polished as some other groups I've seen, even amongst the rookies, I'd see them again. And they sound better in person, which is what I am always hoping for. Plus, the whole group are eighteen or over now! The best part of this little single they've released is the title track is over three minutes and the other one is almost four minutes long. Y'all.

We have some good sound design in this music video, which is exciting. We have the sudden cut off in the instrumentals just before the climax, a soft, gradual build, and then a big blast of sound for the climax. I'm always keeping an ear out for that because it's just so much more satisfying that way. Does a climax need that moment of still beforehand? No. Not technically. But they should have an increased, or a perceived increase in sound and that quietness means you don't actually have to increase the volume or sound pressure. But with the relative quiet of the opening for the song, it provides a good contrast for the ending. Structurally, I'm a fan of this. It's neat, it's orderly, and it provides a structure for them to do variations and shifts within the song.

We've got belts! We've got harmonies! Yes! Happy day for me. We don't have as much vibrato as I normally like to be seeing, but two of the three things I look for being present is honestly good enough. Additionally, I'm a huge fan of the previously mentioned quiet moment right before that vocal burst at the end for the climax. Vocals getting shown off like that bring me joy. I would have liked a tiny bit more rapping, but this is okay. This almost feels like it's in the same vein as a fan song, you know? It's definitely a group affirmation kind of song, which topically is something that I also really like. I like songs about the group sticking together despite and because of their struggles. It's nice.

The music video feels like it might be in the realm of slice of life, with some extra added bits about metamorphosis. It's a gorgeous music video. Whoever the cinematographer is needs some kudos for how pretty it is. And all of the members have their own time to shine, so I appreciate that as well.
