Song Review:: Queenz Eye: PRISM EP.01- Feel the Vibe

  •  Release date: 2025 August 7
  • Album tracklist: Feel the Vibe, ACHA!, TRIPPIN'
  • Album runtime: 8 minutes

They have my attention because I've never heard of them, which means that I need to take a look at them for you all. The "first mini album" thing had me thinking that they're a lot younger than they are, but they debuted in 2022, so I'm a little bit concerned on ages, but they've also had so many line-up changes that they'd fit right in with a first gen group. Unfortunately, the (new) maknae doesn't turn sixteen for about two more weeks. If they hadn't had the line-up changes like they're a first gen group, they'd be completely fine, but that doesn't change the fact that the group, despite being three years old almost, is on Underage Protocol and will be for the next two years. And there is a big age gap between the maknae and the next youngest, five years or so. Which isn't a lot for, say, me, but that's a third of how long the maknae has been alive in total. So. Also with regards to the runtime, which isn't great, that's largely the result of the last song being not even two and a half minutes. The title track doesn't hit the all-important three minutes though it is almost close, but the middle song does. It could be worse.

I think we're leaning a little bit more afrobeats with this one. It also sounds like there's a cowbell in the instrumentals, which is cool, but there's also a techno vibe to it. It kind of feels like about four different genres smashed into one song, which for musical purists may drive some of you a little bonkers, but I like it. There's even a little tiny bit of a dance break at the very end, which could have been extended if the song was, you know, three minutes long, but whatever. Too bad the new maknae is so young. I could roll with this song.

The group has a good blend of voices. I'm not sure if there's some controversy regarding the line-up changes, but this iteration has both lower, richer tones as well as the higher, more delicate ones. This is a good combination. This song has a good match in styles between the rapping and the singing, so that neither feels overly out of place, and it feels like there's a pretty decent balance between the two. So, all in all, yes. I'm a bit peeved that the maknae is so young, otherwise I'd be fully supporting this group and their future endeavors. But, in three years, I'll be more than happy to dig through their discography, assuming they make it that long. It'll be close to the group's seven year anniversary as well.

They're extremely pretty. I'm surprised they haven't gone viral for their visuals yet. The music video is very much a vibes and visuals sort, with the only storyline I can actually see being the progression of the party from morning until night. Whoo, summer! Party!
