Okay, so if you're a fan of cignature, you might be confused about that name because none of the cignature members went by that name. This is Jeewon! Whoo! Apparently this is her official solo debut, although she did release a solo song earlier than this. I also can say that I do occasionally listen to cignature. They're not one of my groups that make super excited to see music or content from, but I do have some of their songs in some of my playlists. So I am looking forward to seeing what she'll give us with this digital single.
It's interesting that there have been a couple of songs released in the last month or so that have sort of an Indian vibe or overlay or something of the sort. It does make me wonder if something was prompting this the last couple of years for songwriters and for the companies to pick these songs. There are some synth effects that kind of stroke across the song, not blatant enough for it to really be noticeable, but enough to add a slightly different flavor note to the dish. The sound of the people talking at the beginning is a good addition to open with, and I like the contrast of the slightly underwater vibes and the more present percussion. The vocals though may be what makes or breaks this song for me. I'm not fully enamored with this instrumental track for whatever reason.
It feels like this song is trying to be seductive? This I think is where taste significantly comes into play, because her voice isn't the lower pitch that I prefer to hear, and it's a little bit too breathy for me. So if I were a rating blog, I'd rate it low on that end, but I don't necessarily know that I'm the target audience for this kind of seduction, and I've got that thing about breathiness anyway. Now. That being said. When her voice strengthens up, yes. All about that. It's got some really nice pieces and parts to it, and if it can get some traction, I imagine that it'll be really a popular song. It just doesn't hit that way for me. Which is fine. Topically, I do need to look at the lyrics, but just with my gut instinct, this is what I like to be hearing.
The aesthetic of this music video is so what I'm about. Yes. Give me the spooky, gothic horror. The storyline? The girl power? The symbolism and motifs? Yes! So much yes! Oh, I could not be more into this. This is so satisfying on so many different levels. It's actually tapping into the film analysis part of my brain that never gets to play anymore. Oh, and the music video won the song over for me. So, that's a bonus.
