Song Review:: Purple Kiss: I Miss My...- DOREMI
- Release date: 2025 July 16
- Album tracklist: DOREMI, LOST & FOUND, VVV
- Album runtime: 9 minutes
So the English album, Purple Kiss's final release (for now, they may sign with a new company, or have reunions for anniversaries, the former I'm really hoping for because I adore this group and I'm so sad that they're not coming back to my city for this tour because I can't make it to them unless something happens to fall exactly into place) released . Still. While I quietly and gently hope for them to go to a new company if that's what they want, The Form is always open for you if you're missing them. I'd actually like to do a Purple Kiss post but because I like them, I feel like I need someone else to agree that they want one. The indulgence seems a bit much just for me to do it. Although November would be a good time for one. This is a hint. Please. So would March, actually, because they're one of my March debuts. This song is almost four minutes long. Oh, I couldn't be happier. The other two are shorter than three, but they're somewhat close. And it's tolerable because they're B-Sides and the title track is significantly longer.
It's not a particularly dramatic song, instrumentally, but it is quite steady. There's a quite a sweet softness to the song that is befitting a final release. I know it isn't their final release because they've got two new songs with the English compilation, and I'll do whichever one is the title track for that album, but this one came first. This isn't to say that there's no energy to the song, because there absolutely is. There's a strong sense of a ticking clock both used in the instrumental and also imitated by the instruments themselves. It's not constant, but it does flavor the song nicely. I would have liked more flavor and variation, especially with this being functionally a last song, but I'm okay with is. Also, the very begining reminds me a bit of the opening to On My Bike, which as we know is one of my favorite songs I've reviewed. I'm not super well-verse in all of their music, but because of that, I do wonder if there are other quiet little references in there.
Even though I don't know a lot of their songs well, one thing that is consistent across the ones I do know is the strength of their vocals. We've got vibrato from at least three of the members in this song, with a good belt to round off the sound. I'm not hearing as much distinct harmony as I'd like, but two out of the three things I look for is good too. It's actually a pretty sweet song, with some softness to it, but honestly, this feels like it would be a good song to sing and doesn't have any sing-songy nonsense.
Context and that ending makes this music video sad. I'd be inclined to blame this at least partially on the oversaturation of the kpop market from 2017-2025, because we're at 75 group/subunit debuts for the year already and it's only September. It's really pretty. The choreography is cool. And I'm sad about this.
But because I don't want to do a whole different post on the English version music video, here's that. And, y'all. If you thought the original was kind of sad... I'm fine. I'm completely fine. "I can't cast a spell now." Oh, my witchy girls. I hope that you get a new home. I have a feeling it won't happen. But I hope it will.
