Y'all, I'm really excited for the music video for this song. I, and I cannot stress this strongly enough, absolutely adore movies and filmmaking and the process, and the significance of Hollywood as a cultural and technological center (as a related side note, I highly recommend the book Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett if you too love movies, and it's delightfully funny). So anytime there's something related to Hollywood or filmmaking in general, I am all about that and would like more. In this case, I'm really really hoping for the music video to be related. Although I just looked at the album run time (which you already know because I put it right up front) and I'm aghast. It would be a lot shorter if that last song wasn't almost 4 minutes long.
I was hoping a little bit for an older sound, but this one is fun. It's a little bit festival, a little bit jazz musical, and overall, basically designed for a large ensemble with group choreography. I like the strong sense of play that permeates the song without it feeling too untethered. I absolutely love the vocal trumpeting that happens at the end. Again, it's just super fun. This is one of those songs that demand you dance with it, and if it had another minute, this would make for an incredible end-of-concert burst of energy.
This has Zico's fingerprints all over it. I'm going to check out the credits to double check, but I'd almost be willing to bet that he's had a hand in it, and I don't know why because I'm fairly unfamiliar with his solo songs, but there's a Zico-ness to it. And, I was right, but also, I think the entire group contributed to the lyrics, so congrats to them! I love the little vocal breaks and squeaks on "Hollywood". Calling out the instruments at the end? Amazing.
As expected, I love it. It's weird, which is kind of the status quo for this group's music videos, and it's behind the scenes a bit, which delights me to end. Storyline. Vibes. Ah. So satisfying.
