There have been so many pre-releases for this month. Goodness. I'm departing from my normal idol group or idol band reviews to bring you what is apparently a Korean metal band, which is actually something that I've been looking for lately. They are both co-ed and at least two of them are older than I am, which is also something that I'm excited about. Debuted in 2016, this is apparently their second full album, which does make me raise an eyebrow a little, but whatever. It's fine. Given the time of year, I'm very excited because of the title of this song. Hopes have been raised. Also, they have a song called My Soul is a Wasteland. I haven't heard it yet, but the drama in that title? Yes.
This is what we call an action movie OST. Or for an action video game of some sort. So I have a playlist that is specifically for songs to help me keep my cool when I'm dealing with certain frustrations at work so that I have a mental outlet when I can't scream out loud. It actually started with Samurai, the fictional band from Cyberpunk 2077, expanded to include Metallica and some of the other metal bands from the 80s. I may be adding this one to that playlist. Who am I kidding? I'm definitely adding this song to that playlist. This is proper hard music and I am in love. Thank you, algorithm. There is one point where it decides it doesn't want to be metal anymore, and instead gets some delicious synthy goodness as a substitute from softness.
You might be surprised that I do actually like metal, but the screaming soothes something in my soul. Even if I can't do it (and I literally can't because I've never been trained to properly and safely do that, and I don't want to damage my voice), it's comforting to know that someone is able to express emotion in that way. But also, this is why I love co-ed groups when they actually sing, because the combination of the female voices and the male voices layered on top of and into each other creates a gorgeous sound, you know? And in this case, it's even better because the textures are different and it's just luscious. I do have to say that I love the line "erase the pages written by your pugnacious ghost". It's been long enough since I encountered that word that I had to word associate from the word "pugilist" first before I remembered the meaning. And that's not even a translation because the entire thing is in English. I mean, the entire thing is almost florid and I love it so much. There are so many good lines and great usage of vocabulary.
Okay, now I get to actually watch the music video. They didn't drop this as a single, so I had to play it on a different tab and not watch it, which is fine. I have a system for when this happens. The music video itself is mostly playing in a warehouse, but it's got a nice edge to it that I appreciate.
