I had to listen to a couple of palate cleanser songs between this one and the last song I reviewed because I had a concern that if I reviewed anything immediately after that, I would have just been utterly disappointed in the way my dog is when I don’t go to bed at a reasonable time. So, here we are with &TEAM’s Korean debut, as well as the song to give them their first music show win. Baksu! And the maknae is nineteen right now so we are good to go.
Ooh, that’s a good guitar. It’s actually kind of a flirtatious instrument right now, sometimes being a little bolder, and sometimes settled back behind the drums, pretending not to be noticed. At least until the end, at which point it’s the frontman for the instrumental. This doesn’t quite go as hard or as deep as I think I would have liked, because the instrumental is lacking a heavy desperation that I think the song could have benefited from, but at the same time, there’s a good drive to the song that tries to compensate for it. I think there’s also a siren in there of some sort, which does create an interesting sound for the song.
My brain keeps expecting there to be more affectation autotune than there is. The ending is the exception to that, but that’s kind of what my brain is expecting to hear more often throughout the song. There's a good, solid contrast vocally, with some good low depth up against the higher falsetto that pops up with the “oooh”s. I'm not really hearing any specific, impressive vocal acrobatics, but I am hearing good control.
Now, that is a music video. I'm kind of sad I didn't get to this one when it was released because it is perfect for Halloween. Body horror, the apocalypse, werewolf boys at the zoo. Literally what more could I ask for? Choreography to match, technically, and we got that too.
