Song Review:: Onew (SHINee): PERCENT- Silky

  • Release date: 2025 July 15

  • Album tracklist: Silky, Caffeine, Marshmallow, ANIMALS, Confidence, Oreo Cake, Far Away, MAN, PERCENT (%), Epilogue, Happy Birthday

  • Album runtime: 30 minutes

Since it's currently December with a smaller number of releases, I'm hitting some of the ones I previously didn't do. Mostly the ones in the summer months when I wasn't doing these as much, and July 15th is squarely summer. Now, I also know that I should be doing some of those title tracks, but this is my SHINee bias and I still feel guilty (Taemin reference not intended, but I'm leaving it here). So, here we are.

The song has quite a lot of sparkly groove to it, if that makes sense. It's got bits where it's really smooth, but it's too bouncy to say that the whole thing is smooth. This one is also really short, so it's hard for it to get much traction going, but this is definitely a happy feels songs that lightens the mood and is just so good to hang out with, you know?

It's just as important to know what to do while you're singing as when you aren't during a song, and this song doesn't really give him a chance to show off that kind of experience, but this is a b-side. He doesn't need to flex the experience he has. I do have to say though, my favorite part of the song is the roughly five seconds at about 1:15 where he dips down a little lower. His upper register and his falsetto are incredibly impressive, but when he takes advantage of the lower end of his voice (relatively speaking, I still wouldn't call it necessarily low)? Oh, that's good.

Onew is just hanging out on a bed being pretty and of the gorgeous voices for this.
