So, I watched a video yesterday morning of DK and Seungkwan from Seventeen on ODG with a kid that they'd done the video with five years ago when he was twelve, who has now debuted in AxMxP. They treated Juhwan, whose name and face I now know, like he's their younger brother. It was adorably sweet. I still can't listen to them for a bit because the maknae debuted at fifteen, but I've got at least one down by name. And this is their first mini album, so I hope they do well! I'm very disappointed by the run time though. There's only one song that's over three minutes.
Ah, that's just a good rock song. Too short. It needs a little bit of extra time to really strut and fan out those tail feathers in a dramatic display, let the instruments do their thing, but it's got some really nice peaks and valleys to it and a sharpness that is remarkably satisfying when it shows up in the shrillness that occasionally shows up. The song has teeth. It doesn't actually do anything with those teeth, but it has them.
The song is too short to have the amount of repetition it has in the lyrics and vocals. The quality of the vocals and the rapping is nice. The chorus is actually pretty solid with some fun slides and flares, but it's a two-and-a-half minute song. The word "pass" is in the chorus fourteen times and in the post-chorus, seventeen times. I do like the call-and-response aspect of it, but that's excessive.
Flashing lights warning on this one.
Hello, Carats in the comments who came here after DK and Seungkwan's video with Juhwan. I love the aesthetics of the music video, which is definitely very rock band. I think it would be really cool to see them and Xdinary Heroes collaborate on something.
