Song Review:: Catch the Young: EVOLVE- Amplify

  • Release date: 2026 January 19

  • Album tracklist: Evolution : Prelude; Amplify;  Stay In The Dream;  Sail;  Better Days;  28 Days;  From Now On; I'm Already In Love With You; Addicted; Hurricane; Alive; Reperio; To You, Standing Before Me; The Young Wave (2026 Remix)

  • Album runtime: 51 minutes

Look at that runtime, everyone! Look at it! This was apparently supposed to be released last year, but getting all the songs together took longer than expected. Not that I'm complaining, especially because of that runtime. If they're going to put the effort in to having this many songs of this length, many if not all of them written by the members, then I'm going to be patiently happy. Also, generally, I just really love their songs, so I've been looking forward to this. They turned two in November, and you can already tell they've settled. I'm hoping that I love most of the songs in this album. I always leave room for ones I don't quite like as well in my expectations, even from groups I generally like. Just in case. And you know what's the best part? One of the songs is under a minute (it's a pure instrumental), and the average is still almost four minutes long.

I'm going to attempt to be objective about this because of how much I generally love this band. It will be difficult. But I will make the attempt.

Just know that my first response was a strong response of a "YES!" complete with toe tapping and head bobbing.

There's a section toward the end that sounds completely discordant, where the instruments seem to bicker with each other in the best way, and just before it hits the point where it sends my brain into an overstimulated tizzy, they all lock back in at the exact right moment to keep me from tipping over that edge and then then song ends almost immediately after. The guitars are going full-tilt, the drums are a constant and a different rhythm than the guitars, and they feel like they're trying to out chaos each other. It's actually genuinely impressive how they manage to do that when there's absolutely no way they could have known what that point would be for me specifically. So, for some, it may be far too much, and for others, it may not lean into the discomfort enough. But it's that perfect sweet spot for me.

There are other songs on the album that have a stronger vocal crafting, but this one's "Amplify" is such a satisfying word with the notes. I'm reminded a lot of their song The Legend from their second mini album in both theme and style. This is a sing-at-the-top-of your lungs on a road trip or in the shower sort of song and it's going to go so well live. And as far as the lyrics go, it's less of a "look how amazing we are" and more of a "look at what we can do together," which I am all about.

Okay. I've got some early favorites from the album. Top of that list is probably I'm Already In Love With You, which reminds me of a combination of Frank Sinatra and Clint Black. I'm already in love with this song, let me tell you. The others are no slouches either, but this one is really, really nice.

If the music video is any indication, I was correct that this was going to be an incredible live performance. And at the beginning when Jungmo twirls the drumsticks? Very attractive, as is Sani's bass solo. I love how we get a blend of technology though.
