Band debut! So this one is a little bit interesting. The band is at Dreamcatcher Company, home to the girl group Dreamcatcher, whom I love because they're kind of spooky witch girls with some big rock vocals. This bodes well for this band. Also, good news, they debuted with the maknae over twenty-one. It's important bringing up Dreamcatcher because Siyeon is the lead singer for the band as well as one of the producers. Whoo! And there are enough minutes to this album that you could have twelve songs over three minutes, or if you remove the intro track, which is only a minute long, that puts the rest of them averaging over three-and-a-half minutes. That's even more impressive because the title track is very close to three minutes, but it's still under.
This is a very satisfying instrumental. The guitar gets some moments when it is going at a specific rhythm, and then that rhythm is disrupted, which does great work for holding the listener's attention through the use of pattern disruption and change. So, yeah. I'm so satisfied with this because the fact that I notice this means that all of the instruments are being used as pieces of a whole rather than to inhabit a specific mood for the song.
She's using vocal fry and vibrato, and I think I'm in love. I've had this song on repeat for a while, and I'm enjoying it more every time it starts over. She's giving us such a good range, between the low, raspy murmurs and the big belts up in her upper range. Don't mistake how short this is for there not being a lot of things to talk about. It's just that good.
This reminds me of Evanescence in the best way and I couldn't identify it until I saw the start of the music video. This is the standard rock band music video with the shaky, handheld camera to give a sense of destabilization and power, but Siyeon is feeling herself and I'm glad to see the proof that the boys are doing background vocals for the song.
