It was kind of funny when they announced their comeback because I was suddenly very excited and also exhausted. However, I also know that this group has had a problem in recent comebacks, through very little fault of their own, with having songs longer than three minutes. So, I took a look at the runtime and was horrified. But I wanted to see what was the cause of this. So I took notes. Of that tracklist, six of them are actual songs with singing by the members, not the speaking that's going on by I don't know who. Of those, only one of the six is over three minutes. But you know the most sickening thing? There's a song that's shorter that two minutes.
That is so far from even pretending to be okay that I want to shake whoever decided that this was going to be how long the song length runtime would be. If you look at the length of just the songs rather than the speaking tracks and the songs, the run time is better. Still under three minutes, but it's closer than a just-barely-two minute average, which is about where the title track itself is. Alright. I'm done. On with the music.
There's a Stray Kids song that this reminds me of, but I'm not sure which one it is. We've got the fast, skittering beat that regularly becomes an overpowering element to a lot of songs, but, good news for the song is that the accompanying organ-esque and the other slides are only with the skittering beat. Unfortunately the song is so short that it only has the one different spot because it simply doesn't have the time to develop much beyond the painfully repeated chorus that I don't even want to count because I suspect will just make me upset. There isn't enough for the song to actually gain traction, and it wastes what little time it has instead of making it bursting from the seams. I'm happy about the organ though. It does definitely support the vampire concept.
I did snap a little bit about the vocals up in the instrumental section, which I shouldn't have done because I do try to separate the two. But, I'm so disappointed in this song. Never in the members, not for something like this. But what is the point of a two-minute song when there's so much wasted repetition?
Wow, Niki looks good this comeback. I will say this for the music video, other that it almost being a good length, the amount of storyline in this song is incredible. No, but seriously. Niki. My dude.
