We have a Tablo produced song in this one! I can't listen to it because the group is on Underage Protocol for a bit because the maknae was fourteen at debut, but that's exciting for Future Fangirl. Unless that one gets a music video. Then I can listen to it early if I review it. It's a good motivation. Also, I'm always delighted by their album and song titles. They're a lot of fun, and I like that for them. They're young and rookies. They don't need the serious songs yet. Let them have their fun. And while the album runtime is a bit too short, the title track hits three minutes, so the disappointment is definitely less. Wait. Wait. Did I review the Tablo song? Hold up. I did not. I'm really hoping I'm not having deja vu again. Only partially. I had it on my list to do and then never did it.
I was not expecting the introduction to go like that. The song has a strong core sound for the instrumental, not quite full EDM, but definitely leaning that direction. The science fiction warbling and the synthy goodness contribute to that, and thankfully the song loosens up to put that on the center stage for a short time, because it prevents the song from being entirely one-note.
We've got a stylistic autotune applied to the vocals, not so much that it muddies or obscures the vocals, but enough that you can clearly hear it. There's a very narrow band that the sound of the vocals lingers in, up until we get to the ad-libs. The rapping is more or less the same throughout, and fairly repetitive, and the singing is much the same way. I am finding that I'm zoning out a little bit while listening to this song, which wouldn't normally be a problem because I could listen to it a few times to catch what I'm missing, but when a song is on Underage Protocol, I can't do that.
I love this style of music video, and I love the concept. I also have to give a massive thank you to the company, not often you hear me say that, because they put the name of who was singing which line. I wish more companies would do that with the subtitles because it's really helpful for those of us who, like me, have no idea who each member is and also helpful for those of us who want to know more about the group. Also, for the people who do line distribution and color-coded lyrics (I see you and your work! Thank you!), that's also incredibly helpful. It does unfortunately prove my point about the rapping because I thought it was all one member. And apparently it's at least three of them. Which means that they sound too similar to each other in style and tone. But I do like this kind of music video. It feels retro, and the fact that I'm using that word to refer to music that's come out since I've been alive makes me feel a little ill, in the best way. Late 90s, early 00s. A little bit Hillary Duff in places.
