Song Review:: M.O.N.T: History

  • Release date: 2026 January 21

  • Album tracklist: History, History - Instrumental

  • Album runtime: 6 minutes

 I was sort of peripherally fond of M.O.N.T because of Peak Time and how much I love Noir (which I found and loved before watching Peak Time because that's how I roll), until they dropped IDGAF (links go to music video, not the review because they came out before I started doing this and if someone wanted to use The Form to submit IDGAF for me to do a regular review, that would be great, please and thank you). I fell in love with that mini album. So I was enthusiastically supporting Bitsaeon while he was on Build Up, and if you haven't seen his performance of Drowning or Dangerously, y'all I highly recommend them. Every time Dangerously in particular comes up, I stop what I'm doing and immediately go into break-up-at-three-am mode. Bitsaeon's high note is a piece of beauty. And Roda is an incredible songwriter as well. I know I'm spending a lot of set-up time here, but they turn seven this year and the group has put out some really solid bangers, consistently enough that I wish they got more attention. So, I'm trying to give you examples of why you should pay attention to them. Because you should. But don't just take my word for it. I just gave you four links of good songs and amazing vocals.

The guitar takes center stage for this instrumental, which is delightful because the guitar gets the main melody, and the piano gets to act as percussion. Which it technically is. The flow of the song is excellent with a wonderful rhythm to the energy, bright during the verses, soft during what I assume is going to be the pre-chorus, and then a little more bouncy and heavy during the chorus. I don't know how it manages to be both bouncy and heavy, but the chorus manages it. There's also a little pause at about the 3/4 mark where the piano trills and it's just so fun.

Okay. I wasn't super sold on the instrumental, but how this song opens sold it for me. "Let me tell you that forever starts tonight" is such a big way to start a song, even if it isn't actually sung, but it does sound like an old-timey radio announcer, and I'm here for it. The song also has "nananas", which means that this is going to have an excellent concert and performance hype. I can practically hear the crowd singing along there. This song is scratching an itch for me. Nice.

I love how smooth this song is. And they're just vibing in a library, sometimes singing along when it isn't their part. I love that. I mean, I love libraries, so I'm definitely partial, but they're also playing. This is is solid.
