Music Show Wins:: Week of 04/29 - 05/05

  Y'all, I just went down a rabbit hole over INKODE, who we should be getting the second boy group debut announcement from soon. Anyway. 

We have three first wins for songs this week! Whoo!!! Congrats to those groups! And I believe one of these may be a first win ever, so that's even cooler!

For the extra performances, I went with a pretty recent After School Club with Ep. 664 from 2025 and KickFlip. For the The Show re-run, I'm giving you TOMORROW X TOGETHER back when they were still pretty new in 2021. And the two extra stages for this week went to ifeye and UNCHILD.

 Okay, I did this time what I wanted to do last time and pull from my big playlist. And it gave me a Oneus song that is a fairly recent addition to that playlist and thus is not one of the ones that I know super well. The odds of this happening are hilariously low because I listen to that playlist the most. It's also funny that we got Oneus, because in the numbers game, the odds were not in their favor (10/1306). So, obviously, this song deserves to be here now. Oneus debuted in 2019 as a six-member group under RBW. They're currently down to five, but I still link the sixth member back to them. Song Review:: BTS: ARIRANG- SWIM

Release date: 2026 March 20 Album tracklist: Body to Body, Hooligan , Aliens, FYA, 2.0 , No. 29, SWIM , Merry Go Round, NORMAL, Like Animals, they don't know 'bout us, One More Night, Please, Into the Sun Album runtime: 41 minutes  Well, here we are, folks. A much awaited comeback. Let's just get to it. I did take note of the runtime and we're just shy of a three minute runtime average for the album, and the title track is less than three, which I'm not as pleased about, but that's par for the course with HYBE title tracks lately. At least it's over two-and-a-half minutes, so I'm not going to whine too much. Also, I took off the NU'EST nail polish of two of my nails and painted one of them purple in honor of this comeback. Battle of the B-Sides:: MAMAMOO: Destiny

 I went back to the roulette wheel for this one because I figure that I can stray again from what I'm familiar with, and instead it gave me the first song I started listening to by MAMAMOO and the reason I continued listening to them. 6000 songs, at least a third of which I've never heard before. And yet, ironically, it's a song called "Destiny" that chaos decided for me. What's even funnier about this is the last song I did was by their younger brothers, who debuted the year this came out. Ah, I'm excited for you to hear this one if you haven't already. MAMAMOO is a four member girl group that debuted in 2014 under RBW. They're known for industry defying behavior (especially when told not to do something), insane vocals, and a level of chaos that has caused them to be called the female BTOB (and BTOB gets called the male MAMAMOO, which is accurate and funny).  Hello, everyone! I decided to go back to my origins and use the old roulette wheel to decide on a Greatest Hits from a third gen boy group I have not covered yet. I've been circling around the group quite a lot, ever since the first time I saw their name written in Hangeul and was the first group I read and figured out before I knew them. I did of course check to see if there was a boy group called "HOTSHOT" to see if I'd read that correctly. So, yeah. I'm very curious about this group. They seem really familiar for some reason though, like I should know them more than by name and from After School Club. ...Ah. I just remembered where I knew them. Produce 101.  Coming up as we are on March 15th, I'm starting to get emotional. Between certain anniversaries, and a certain member leaving his company on the group disbandment date, I'm not doing incredibly well. So, for the dopamine hit, I picked a group that has very little connection to my boys, other than having two more 95z and their maknae being born within days of one of the members, but also one that I already love. MAMAMOO is the girl group version of my emotional support group, BTOB, and I'm into the emotional support right now for myself.  So I picked an emotional support song because I need it and I'm sure that someone else out there needs it. Starry Night  is, as the post title suggests, the title track for their EP "Yellow Flower" from their Four Seasons, Four Colors series (which serves to highlight each of the four members, beginning here with Hwasa). Release date: 2026 March 30 Album track list: Toxic Love, Highs and Lows , Already Grown Up, Up All Night, Step by Step, Hold My Love, Piano Album runtime: 20 mi nutes  This isn't my primary streaming service, but sometimes I get a little confused about title tracks when they're in English in some plays and in Korean in other places, as is the case with this song, and Melon actually labels which song is the title track. So in the event that I do get confused, I will check Melon for confirmation that the song I think is the title track is actually the title track. It's basically the only thing I use Melon for, but I do wish more streaming services would do that. This is a joke. In all seriousness, this is Jaejoong's first boy group he's debuting (with another coming next month, so if I don't like this one, I may like the next one more since he said they're very different). This is not the group that is set to debut with the two trainees who were on Boys Planet 2 , but regardless I get to see if this is going to be on Underage Protocol or not. We have one member that was at YG Entertainment, one that was at SM Entertainment, and one that was at ADOR, but the maknae is the only one who is underage and he turns seventeen next month, so we are good to go. Next music video from this album. This one I definitely know I've added to some of my playlists. It's not my favorite of the bunch, but I did like it well enough. I'm really annoyed that the vinyl only song is vinyl only because vinyl is difficult to listen to on the go and I love that song. But, it is what it is. I love that introduction. It's all old-timey, then spooky and glitchy. Then it turns to what sounds like knives being dragged across each other. Then we get the old-timey and the spooky and the glitchy behind the knives. Song Review:: Wheein: adagio- The Symphony of Fxxkboys

Release date: 2026 April 16 Album tracklist: The Symphony of Fxxkboys , Truth Hurts  Album runtime: 6 minutes  I think she was the last one to release a solo song (I'll get to Solar's, I promise) leading up to their twelfth anniversary, which is so impressive. And I know I don't talk about her quite as much as I do Moonbyul and Hwasa, but I still love her voice and I think she's so pretty. And she's also really funny. Whole package. And the title of this song sends me back to high school, which was the last time I had to deal with any of them. Ooh, she's giving us a bit of a rock song. Having that during the chorus is a good choice because it helps strengthen the vocal build, but then during the build where it's just a piano, then slamming into the rock again changes the mood of the song from just being pissed to more of a declaration. I also love how the rock has an interrupted rhythm because it strengthens the power of the vocal punch. And you have all of ...

Release date: 2025 April 9 Album tracklist: Mess , Mess - Instrumental Album runtime: 5 minutes  Do I have to do the title track for his new mini album? Yes. Will I get to it soon? Yes, because Episode  has been getting wins on music shows! Yay! I'm slowly getting my backlog worked on, and I wanted to do this one. However, I'm deeply disappointed by the runtime. I mean, look at that. But this is Kang Daniel, and I've come to realize how good his voice is.  There's something very old about the instrumental track. I can't decide if it's the plink of the high notes on the piano or if it's from the slightly staticky overlay to most of the song, or maybe it's both, as both of those elements are found in music from the thirties. Although, to be fair, the one isn't necessarily on purpose but rather from the degradation of the recordings. The rest of the instrumentals aren't from the thirties.
