Song Review:: B.D.U: X-mas Treat- Must Have love

  • Release date: 2024 December 10
  • Album tracklist: Must Have love - 2024 Version, Must Have love - Eng Version, Must Have love - Instrumental
  • Album runtime: 11 minutes

I was just talking about this in the M.O.N.T and Jay reviews I did recently about how I was worried about what was going on with B.D.U. And look at what just showed up! A Christmas song, or at least I assume it's a Christmas song, judging by the title of the album. I'm fully expecting this to be Gorgeous Voice Central for almost four minutes. Do I know what "2024 Version" means? No, so I'm going to go take a look. And the answer is, this is a remake of a collaboration between SG Wannabe and Brown Eyed Girls from 2006 (and it's amazing, and that video they go into Feliz Navidad and they sing in Spanish.). Brown Eyed Girls would go on to release their version of the song in 2014. ATBO did their version last year.

The bells instantly put you in the Christmas mood. I'm actually really happy that we got an instrumental track, partially because it obviously makes it easier on me to do the instrumental section right here and partially because this feels like a modern take on a classic song. The electric guitar is the strongest modern part to it, but it's just so very cheery. Whoever composed this did a great job originally, and whoever arranged it did an equally great job of updating an eighteen year old song. It feels like a Christmas song and is familiar as one, though it isn't one that I grew up with. My favorite part is probably the very ending. As much as I love every other part of the instrumentals, the quiet ending is perfect.

B.D.U was built to be a ballad group, or at least have a strong focus on the vocals above everything else, and that translates scarily well to this style of Christmas song. The entire song is lousy with unrestrained, gorgeous vibratos and a sweetness that I can love because I don't anticipate them doing much dancing if any at all and don't have to worry about them trying to sing like this while dancing, which is a nice relief. The harmonization between the members is exactly as I'd expect, and those expectations were high. It doesn't make as many bold movements vocally as I would have liked for the voices this group has, but the satisfying pleasantness is well bolstered by the instrumentals and it's very much in line with the original style-wise. I could go to sleep to it, and PJ came over and hit my speaker with his face in an affectionate bump while this was playing.

There isn't a music video, but I will give you the making film instead.
