Music Show Wins:: Week of 01/22 - 01/28

  This week was a clean sweep for a certain group, so that's very impressive. Well done. Still nothing on the Show Champion or the The Show! front, so we only have the other four and ASC. That was kind of a Seollal special featuring CIX and it was adorable watching them play yutnori and some other traditional Korean games (which was very fun) and have to go up against the MCs in ddakji. Allen was very bad at that, which was funny, but all three of them suffered a little. Taeyoung and Aron struggled a lot with the MC dance challenge. Aron's will to live left his body in real time and Taeyoung had to interrupt the first "with music" practice because he'd gotten lost at the start. Also, at one point, one of them said something alone the lines of "This is as good as we're going to do, I think." Not that I necessarily want them to struggle, but I love seeing a not-perfect product sometimes. Reminds me that they're human. Trained in dance, but human all the same. Also, CIX talking about the music video and the filming of it was cool. They had to wait for people to stop exercising in the park they filmed at.

 I love when I get suggestions for groups that I've heard of but haven't actively listened to. I know that f(x) has several songs that are on the list of K-Pop influential songs that pretty much everyone should be familiar with, if they don't know  them. I don't think this is one of them, because this is a b-side, but I could also be wrong. Which is why I like being able to dig into the albums and the songs a little bit. So, this comes from their second studio album Pink Tape, released in 2013, which won a bonsaeng in 2014 at the GDAs, and hit number 1 on multiple music charts worldwide. One of the songs on the album was originally supposed to be Ariana Grande's song, and f(x) got it instead. So that's pretty cool. Release date: 2025 January 13 Album tracklist:  Seasons of Memories , Always Album runtime: 6 minutes  When I started this, I figured the odds of getting a new GFRIEND song was slim, not impossible as what I've heard from them seems to be an indication that they've wanted this, but slim. And yet, here we are to my surprise that I don't just get to do one GFRIEND song, I get to do two, one now and one later. It fills me with hope for certain other things, I'm not going to lie. But. January 2025 Wrap Up: Auld Lang Syne

 Whooee, it's been a long 164 days, hasn't it? What do you mean it's only the end of January?  Nope. I'm staying focused. Eyes on the prize. In this case, the prize is the end of December when Minhyun is discharged. So, one month down. Eleven to go. We're also one month closer to several other discharges that will help distract me from the wait, and one month closer to some post-military comebacks that I am absolutely most excited for. And there's one coming out next month that I believe was the first one I was aware of to enlist. But this is January! A little bit of a slow start to the year, but I'm appreciating the pace as I get back into things and recover from my cold.  We had only two group debuts that I could find, that of KickFlip out of JYPE and Stray Kids' younger brothers, considering I think they're in the same division. Song Review:: Onew (SHINee): Connection- Winner

Especially so close to the last one. Right now, I fully trust that he isn't overworking himself, partially because I trust him to know his limits as a seventeen-year idol, and partially because I trust his new company. The CEO's comments about selling the funeral wreaths they've been sent gives me life, and I'm also genuinely delighted that Onew is getting to do music he wants to do and exploring so much. This is the fourth music video to drop from it, which is almost more than some mini albums have tracks, and is part of the reason why I prefer the longer albums, even if there's an increased wait for them. And also their first major comeback after leaving JYPE? In both cases, I'm fully supportive of this. Also, congrats to GOT7 for their eleventh anniversary a few days ago! Whoo! There's a good average runtime, which I'm here for, but the length of the title track is something I am not. So I didn't have creepy doll vibes from a boy group on my 2025 K-Pop Bingo sheet, but here we are! I appreciate that a boy group is going to pull out that particular sound. It's one of my favorites, and I really want to hear it more often. Nice skittering beat that compliments and strengthens the creepy doll without making that part overpowering. So while I'm very, very excited for this particular song because I love BSS and their particular brand of cheerful chaos, that awareness sits on my shoulder and glares at me. But, as long as it isn't in the vicinity of sad, I'll likely be fine listening to it. The Hoshi x Woozi subunit coming up shortly may be a different story, but that's a problem for Future Fangirl to worry about. So fun fact, I can't actually listen to this group yet on my own freetime because the maknae debuted at the grand age of fourteen and hasn't turned eighteen yet, although she does turn eighteen in a couple of weeks, so I can listen to them at that point. But that does mean I have to go back to my "I can't listen" steps for the review. Still, if I like this song, that means I only have a couple more weeks to wait for it to go into regular listening playlists. Gotta love me a song with a strong, driving beat. Of course, at the beginning, it is softer, but that just makes the transition to full, dramatic rock song is fantastic. The rests in very specific locations for the emphasis of the vocals and to assist in the rhythm of the song allow. Primary instruments are the guitar and the drums.
