Song Review:: Close Your Eyes: Snowy Summer- Snowy Summer

  • Release date: 2025 July 9

  • Album tracklist: Paint Candy, Snowy Summer, You, Bubble Tea

  • Album runtime: 11 minutes

Close Your Eyes debuted back in April, so I'm a little surprised that they are having a comeback so soon, but I'm not going to be too worried just yet. I hope they're taking care of the maknae and any of the other minors in the group specifically. I do have to say I really enjoyed their entire debut album, so I'm hoping that I like this one as well. The album runtime is a little bit suspect, but the title track is just shy of three minutes, so it could be worse and I'll accept it.

The instrumentals are relatively mild and out of the way, which is really nice, but I'll talk about that when it's time for the vocal section. I like how we have sections where the instrumentals mimic the vocals as it can be reassuring for the performers and with them being about three months old at this point, it could be a very subtle safety net. It's also mild in the way that I wouldn't expect a summer song to be, but then it is called Snowy Summer, so I should have skewed my expectations to something that's more wintery in tone going into this. Whoops.

One of my favorite things about this group is the fact that they get to harmonize. You have a group of singers. Yes, them having solo lines is important, and we love that. But being able to harmonize well and sound good is a better indication of skill than even being able to just sound extremely good while singing. This is why the main vocalists typically get the ad-libs. But Snowy Summer sounds like quite a few of the lines get two or more members to sing at the end of them, especially through the chorus and into the end of the song. And I cannot tell you how exciting that is for those of us who are me. It's so satisfying. Generally though, the song doesn't have a lot of big vocal movements, but the style of the song isn't such that we'd get a lot of them. There are some textural differences between the rapping and the singing. I am slightly concerned over the breathiness of the chorus, so I do hope that the choreography matches.

Have some Christmas in July, but also mixing with with a funny Final Destination concept. That is a funny, funny music video. So good news, we have a storyline. Good news, I was right about the choreography for the chorus. Good news, this is legitimately one of the funniest music videos I've seen so far this year. It's a combination of The Darkest Timeline episode from Community and The Spot from Supernatural. With music! So on the whole? Deeply satisfying.
