Song Review:: B1A4: SET- CPR

  • Release date: 2026 April 21
  • Album tracklist: Rock Paper Scissors, CPR, Colors on me, 5959, The star
  • Album runtime: 16 minutes

 So I recently discovered the meaning behind this group's name, and it's the members' blood types. That reminds me of Dragon Pony, the band that is so named because they were born in either the Year of the Dragon or the Year of the Horse. Or 2NE1, because the average age of the members at debut was 21 years old. I love the weirdly literal names. And this is actually their first release under their own company after fourteen years at WM Entertainment.

Ooh, this song makes excellent use of a stereo sound system. That's fantastic. The instrumental is just plinking all over the place and it keeps the song fairly unpredictable with actual physical movement instead of just relying on more static variations. That's satisfying. Generally, the entire this is pretty gentle, and ironically, a song that you could actually use for CPR, although it is on the slower end. I once impressed an elementary school principal who wanted me to come work for her because of my performance during the first aid certification that I was doing with my CPR skills. I don't know why that was the thing she wanted, but I still laugh about it.

I just realized that this is actually a  b-side. It's fine. I'm going to finish this and then work on the actual title track because ya girl cannot pay attention to anything apparently. I should have looked at the numbers. I thought that was low.

This actually explains a lot about how mild and pretty the song is. Not that a title track couldn't be, but this is the kind of song that back in the day would have had everyone pulling out their lighters to sway. While we now have light sticks for that same purpose, it's just not the same, you know? But we've got such pretty vocals and the layering and the ad-libs and all of this is just gorgeous. This is just one of those songs that I feel in my bones is going to be infinitely better live than recorded.

No music video, because I'm silly and kind of a dingus. Unless they decide to promote this one too. In which case, please. Except they did perform it on Show Champion so you're getting that video instead. And the fans gave it a fanchant even though there isn't one.

Edit: THERE IS A MUSIC VIDEO NOW. I CAN TELL THE FUTURE. I'm just kidding. But I'm leaving the original review because I can and because there's no reason I shouldn't keep that in as part of my honest reaction to the song. You know, this almost has the same kind of fluffy slice of life music video that I love to see with the rookies while they're still bonding with each other but is even more special when we see it with the older idols who have been through it and lost members and come out still together, if not whole anymore. And then I realized that it wasn't a slice of life, but the introduction to some actual plot and I was in fact even happier.
