Song Review:: Changsub (BTOB): Lee;Make (Fragmenta Amoris)- Four seasons, and you

 My cat's bias is pulling out the Latin for his album title, I see. I'm not kidding. I'm actually glad that Changsub is in a different country from me because there's no risk of him ever meeting T'Challa and T'Challa deciding he loves Changsub more than me. In more serious news, this morning I saw the vocal challenge that Jongho did of this song and I about swooned. Partially because of the Mayfly crumbs, but also because even without hearing the original, Jongho and Changsub have such similar timbres that I think Jongho could actually and properly do justice to one of Changsub's ballads. Which he obviously did for the vocal challenge.  Also, nearly four minutes a song. I love this man. It looks like the entire mini album was written by the same people, which is fun.

This is a fascinating instrumental. It actually moves through four "seasons". From the beginning, I thought that this was going to a lot more rock from that very strong guitar opening, but then the violin kicks in and it softens up beautifully. The piano is also doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this song because there are spots where the song is literally just his voice and a piano. But the majority of the instrumental seems to be written to sit alongside his voice as a full fledged instrumental track on its own merit that happens to have a vocal track that slots perfectly into it. Gorgeous.

For the record, I finally let my cat listen to this. His head popped up from where he was napping as soon as he heard Changsub's voice, and now he's melted into an actual ink puddle on my bed. His eyes open when the song ends, and they close again when Changsub starts singing. I was not kidding about being glad to be on a different continent from him. I'm sad because we're on different continents and the opportunities for me to hear his voice are currently non-existent, because his vibrato is fully unleashed in this song, even on some of the shorter notes. And the fact that you can hear the breath control in this song, it almost sounds like a live recording, which doesn't surprise me because sound engineers love working with him because they don't have to do any work correcting notes, so what gets preserved as the released track is basically just him performing it. If I were inclined to rating the reviews, the vocals here would get 11/10. I just want to bask and he just keeps getting better.

The coloring and the lighting in this music video is incredible. Top tier. And the storyline? This is all I want. Really. I'm having emotions right now over this.

 Well, friends, as this is a new debut (or near enough), I need to take a look at the ages and verify that what I heard was correct. And it was! The maknae, Donghyeon, turns eighteen in a couple of months, so if I like the sound, I can like the group. Song Review:: Super Junior: Super Junior 25- Express Mode

Release date: 2025 July 8 Album tracklist: Express Mode , Haircut, Air, Delight, I Know, Say Less, D.N.A, Finale, Stuck With You Album runtime: 28 minutes  Average runtime of over three minutes, which is aided by the four minute song, but there are only two that are under three minutes. This is all good. Congrats on your almost 20th anniversary, SuJu! The fun thing about this group is that the group and me almost share a birthday. Just as a fun fact, The Incredibles movie is almost exactly one year older than the group.  The introduction of this song is one of the funniest things I've heard in a while. Oh, my gosh. I know they're a fairly recent boy group, but have no idea their company, the number of members, or debut year, and I do have two of their songs in one of my playlists, but they're my Junk Drawer playlist and haven't gotten to them yet. Ah! Seven member group under Eden Entertainment (which is now sort of a subsidiary of JYPE, I think?) that just had their one year anniversary. Fascinating. Also, that means that you all have lots to look forward to. Happily, the maknae is eighteen as of a couple of weeks ago. Happy birthday, Yuki! Also, this album looks like it's going to be longer than the last one I covered, so I am very happy about that one. Title track is questionably short, but this one is within acceptable limits. Music Show Wins:: Week of 10/22 - 10/28

  If you haven't heard the news, The Show is set to be canceled in the first half of November, which is infuriating. The Show , while probably the least frequently occurring of the music shows, was the one that the younger/less well-known groups had the best shot of getting wins on, especially that all important first win. And, related to that, it appears that After School Club may also have been canceled. It's listed as a previous show on the website, and I cannot begin to express my displeasure in this. Again, this was a good space for the rookies and the smaller groups to start. Some groups that got very big eventually started out as rookies or young, struggling groups on ASC (BTS, Seventeen, and Stray Kids, to name a few), and it filled a niche for those groups to have more much-needed exposure. Song Review:: MEOVV: MEOW {Debut}

In this case, I'm not sure about the relationship between their company, TheBlackLabel, and YG. I know they're closely linked, but I'm not positive about what specifically is going on there. Oh, well. Hopefully MEOVV and BABYMONSTER get along. It would probably make life uncomfortable if they don't. I like that they vibe like a boy group. They're still feminine, but they're not girly, which is a change of pace, welcome for me though there isn't anything wrong with the girlier groups. They actually remind me a lot of 2NE1, without the particular timely trappings that come with a 2009 debut. But it's like if 2NE1 had debuted this year instead of 2009, stylistically. Song Review:: Lucy: Sorry Not Sorry OST Part 1- A New Chapter

The fact that they did an OST? This delights me to no end. I love this band. They're incredible and another of my healers that I've been collecting.  The background vocals are actually included with the instrumentals, which means I don't have to feel guilty about including them in this section. You don't normally hear this much energy from an OST, even though there's still something ludicrously comforting about their sound. Apparently they've done quite a few OSTs over the last four years since they debuted, and I'm curious to know if they managed to bring this same energy each and every time. Music Show Wins:: Week of 2025 01/01 - 01/07

  We didn't get any of the music shows for the first part of the week because of the mourning period. Starting with Music Bank , we got a return to a song that had a couple of weeks without a win, and as soon as I saw the name, I started laughing. And then for Inkigayo , we got another older song. YG supremacy. For After School Club (ASC), the hip-hop girl group YOUNG POSSE were the guests. I found them to be delightfully adorable. There wasn't an MC challenge, which made me a little sad because that's my favorite segment, but I was very entertained by the members regardless. The link for the episode is included as always. Battle of the B-Sides:: f(x): Shadow

 I love when I get suggestions for groups that I've heard of but haven't actively listened to. I know that f(x) has several songs that are on the list of K-Pop influential songs that pretty much everyone should be familiar with, if they don't know  them. I don't think this is one of them, because this is a b-side, but I could also be wrong. Which is why I like being able to dig into the albums and the songs a little bit. So, this comes from their second studio album Pink Tape, released in 2013, which won a bonsaeng in 2014 at the GDAs, and hit number 1 on multiple music charts worldwide. One of the songs on the album was originally supposed to be Ariana Grande's song, and f(x) got it instead. So that's pretty cool.
