Song Review:: ifeye: ERLU BLUE- NERDY

  • Release Date: 2025 April 08
  • Album tracklist: NERDY, IRL, BUBBLE UP, NERDY - ENGLISH VERSION
  • Album runtime: 12 minutes

This is apparently a digital mini album, which is interesting for a debuting group and implies a few things. But, I'm only here to judge members' ages, song lengths, and trendiness, as it were. Also, I'm here to gently point out that "ifeye" stands for "Imagine & Find Energetic Young Eyes" which makes about as much sense as "New Establish Style Tempo," but you know? It's fine. Nonsensical acronyms are part of my jam. Okay, but in terms of ages, the eldest (not the leader) turns nineteen this year, which is a little worrisome but it could have been fine except for the fact that the maknae is currently fifteen and turns sixteen next month, which means I go into Underage Protocol, listening once for the instrumental, once for the vocals, and then up to twice for the music video. I'm here to help informed decisions happen.

The instrumentals are incredibly minimalistic, being little more than a couple of beats layered on top of each other. There is an interruption to it at about the 2:30 mark, which perked my ears up a little, but then it returned to its equilibrium. I don't really have a lot to say about it, other than I'm curious why this one was chosen as the debut song when there isn't a lot of oomph to it. I can't listen to the others to see if I can figure out why it was chosen, which is a little bit of a shame.

The song is definitely catchy. I'm going to pop it in the playlist I titled like a Fall Out Boy song to revisit in a couple of years, but I'm not getting any powerhouse vocalist vibes from any of them. Not that the song really gives them any opportunities for it, so that's absolutely not on them anyway. If we could get evidence of some bigger vocals, I could see some comparisons being drawn with groups like AOA and Wonder Girls and STAYC. That would however require their company to give them songs that would encourage such things, but as of right now, I'm going to say that were the members a little older, I'd be adding it to a couple of playlists. Maybe not my all-time faves list, but I'd be okay with listening to it somewhat regularly.

So this definitely has a storyline. I just have no idea how the beginning matches up with the ending. Did they cause the end of the world? Are they aliens that arrived to survive the end of the world? I genuinely don't have a clue here. But it's a good music video. Production is high. There's a storyline as I said. And with the underage members, it doesn't seem to be overly sexual, so that's kudos points from me. Tentatively hopeful for this group, not going to lie. And so, I wish them well and I hope that I continue to like them so that in a few years, I can add their songs to playlists and actually listen to the other songs on their singles and albums.
