Song Review:: RAVN (Oneus): Comedy {Pre-Debut}

  • Release Date: 2025 April 02
  • Album tracklist: Comedy, Comedy - Instrumental
  • Album runtime: 7 minutes

 If you think I'm not giving this kid back to his group, I haven't been blatant enough in my opinions. He leaves the group to keep from harming its reputation and he was found innocent of the claims against him. Am I angry about this, especially when they just released an album of five-member versions? Yes. And I'm going to sulkily be thinking about this whole situation for five more minutes before I try to shake it off and listen to this song with a clear head. This is apparently a pre-debut release, but I have no idea when his solo debut is scheduled for.

Also, yay for those of us who are me, the instrumental track is also included so I get to simply enjoy that without having to dig underneath the vocals, and there's a segment, not sure what it specifically is, that reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy X, but if that part of the soundtrack was more synthy. You know? It's also very clearly a keyboard rather than a piano, which contributes to the slightly more laidback feel to the song. It's just weird enough that it avoids the trap of the milquetoast instrumentals.

It's really interesting that this song isn't better mixed, because there are quite a few points where the instrumentals overwhelm his voice. He's got a good voice, and the lazy sort of rapping he's doing in this song does work well, but the soft murmuring undercuts everything and nullifies a lot of the quirky momentum of the instrumentals. The lyrics are excellent, though. One part poignant and one part odd, but well written all the same.

Well, that's a music video. It's got everything: retro aesthetics, a guy in a gorilla suit, unmasking the villain to see your own face, Garden of Eden symbolism. Actually, the whole thing is so chock full of symbolism that the symbolism almost obscures the storyline, which seems to be Alice in Wonderland-esque.
